Job Summary/Description:

WBKO is seeking an Assistant News Director to help lead the newsroom and advance the quality of our Journalism. The AND will play a key part in crafting and maintaining a positive culture to attract and retain the best talent. Working closely with the News Director, you'll help train and lead young producers and reporters by mentoring and developing their skills. This is a great step for someone looking for a leadership opportunity – a producer looking to step up into a leadership role, or an anchor/reporter looking jump into a leadership role.

What We Expect from You:
• Oversee daily editorial and content decisions for WBKO's newscasts
• Oversee dayside newscasts, including reviewing scripts with reporters and producers
• Plan special events, promotions, special reports, and other assigned projects
• Post and regularly update stories on social media and web (in conjunction with our Digital
Executive Producer)
• Assist the News Director in recruiting, and hiring of new staff members
• Fill-in where needed to cover vacations, sick leave, etc.

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Belief in the power of local journalism. At WBKO, we're ''Local. First. Now.''
• A winning mindset – able to identify and ''own'' the day's big stories
• Able to lead and train staff members
• Able to make quick decisions and handle breaking news calmly
• Able to fill-in in the absence of the News Director
• Must have a teacher/coach mentality
• Must have prior newsroom experience
• Must have the ability to produce a newscast
• Basic experience with cameras, ENPS, Edius is a plus
• MVR check required
