The Job
WB Games Inc. seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the WBG San Francisco Engineering department.
As a Staff Engineer at WB Games, you have wide game development experience with best of class engineering skills. You are adept at balancing the needs of rapid prototyping and iterative feedback with a manageable codebase. You have a passion for gaming and thrive on working with all departments to craft quality game experiences.
On the R&D team you will be a core member of a small team working to bring early-phase concepts to life. You will lead the charge in turning rough ideas into playable prototypes. Versatility and a deep appreciation of game design will be critical to operating in a dynamic and creative environment. You will have the opportunity to experiment with different genres, explore innovative ideas, and learn both from what does and doesn't work.
This position requires close collaboration with all other disciplines to help capture, develop, distill and execute a coherent vision of game concepts into software. In this position, you are responsible for all aspects and quality of your projects. You will develop and maintain shared technology and best practices. You will also be a leader in establishing best practices, assisting / mentoring other engineers on the team and identifying problem areas / opportunities for improvement in the codebase.
The Daily
• Author and test gameplay and system code.
• Participate in design discussions and feedback sessions.
• Provide technical design and guidance for development milestones.
• Establish, refine, and apply standards & best practices in the codebase.
• Support the development team with tooling and workflow assistance.
• Create and maintain shared technology libraries.
The Essentials
• At least 7 years of game industry experience.
• Shipped at least 3 mobile/social title, preferably on multiple platforms.
• Unity development experience required.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent industry experience and success.
• Expert C# programming skills.
• Deep knowledge of Unity including custom tool creation.
• Proficient with 3D math including linear algebra (vector math, matrices).
• Deep knowledge of common data structures and algorithmic solutions.
• Deep knowledge of software design practices including modular architecture, event-driven architecture, and software design patterns.
• Strong practical knowledge of mobile, platforms middleware technologies, strengths and weaknesses.
• Strong sense for mobile game design.
• Extensive experience working with prototyping and early-stage game development.
• Extensive experience with self-testing to minimize and fix issues.
• Experience with network game design and development required.
• Experience building and maintaining shared code libraries.
• Documentation / Presentation skills.
• Strong problem solving / debugging skills.
• Strong collaboration and cross-discipline communication skills.
• Ability to work unsupervised.
• Ability to assess the quality of other engineers work.
• Passion for making games.
