A little bit about our team:

Warner Music's Center of Excellence for Shared Services opened in 2017 and is the home to the financial, legal, and administrative functions that provide critical support and best-in-class services to our US Recorded Music and Publishing businesses. The Nashville center embodies the innovative and creative spirit that stems from the company's deep history in nurturing entrepreneurial thinking and artist-focused innovation, enabling our employees to develop a wide range of skills through cross-function collaboration and development opportunities.

The Legal Department is responsible for enforcing WMG's rights in the recorded music catalog repertoire controlled by its US record labels, managing litigations involving WMG's recorded music catalog rights in conjunction with WMG's corporate litigation in-house counsel, fielding inquiries and claims from third parties, researching WMG's recorded music catalog rights, filing applications to register copyrights in and to WMG's recorded music repertoire, and managing WMG's relationships with the labor unions with which WMG's US record labels have collective bargaining agreements.

Members of the Legal Department work closely with employees in the Business Affairs, Finance, Production, Operations, New Media, and Marketing departments of each label client to fulfill the above-referenced responsibilities for the recordings and records those labels release.

Your role:

The candidate hired to fill this position will be responsible for the registration of WMG's recorded music repertoire with the United States Copyright Office (USCO) and managing the copyright registration process for WMG's US record labels.

Here you'll get to:
• Consult and coordinate with various internal teams to secure information, documents, and materials needed for copyright registration and recordation purposes;
• Review recording agreements, contracts, and license agreements to confirm copyright ownership and chain of title;
• Ingest and review product release schedules from WMG's record labels;
• Draft and file copyright registrations with the USCO for all new sound recordings, and maintain detailed and accurate records regarding same;
• Prepare responses to the USCO examiners' inquiries regarding applications and timely resolve any issues regarding same;
• Prepare documents pertaining to the transfer or change in copyright ownership for recording with the USCO;
• Field, research, and track incoming inquiries from the corporate litigation team and the business affairs teams at the WMG labels pertaining to sound recording copyright registrations;
• Liaise with the USCO by, among other things, attending USCO webinars, participating in pilot programs, and providing feedback on policy changes and initiatives;
• Maintain company copyright registration policies and documented processes and update as needed;
• Work with internal resources to create new copyright registration efficiencies, including recommending and facilitating workflow and process improvements where appropriate; and
• Track the copyright registration team's key performance indicators and prepare quarterly and yearly reports regarding same.

About you:
• Bachelor's degree, or Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent experience;
• At least 2-3 years of copyright registration related work;
• Self-starting and self-motivated with the ability to assess and initiate matters independently;
• Resourceful with a drive to research and seek out information;
• Ability to identify automation and process improvement ideas and communicate those ideas effectively;
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build interdepartmental relationships and professional rapport at many levels;
• Team player who is able to multi-task, prioritize, and maintain a standard of excellence under deadlines; and
• Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.

We'd love it if you also had:
• Prior music industry experience or experience working in a law firm or in-house legal setting; and
• Prior experience registering sound recording copyrights.
