The Job

It is an exciting time at WarnerMedia. We are seeking a Sr. Payroll Manager for the HR Services Payroll department who will be instrumental in managing and overseeing successful day to day payroll service delivery. This individual should be experienced in high volume, multi-state payroll with knowledge of payroll regulatory compliance across all states in which employees reside, including US and expatriate employees, and experience with payroll processing for multiple legal entities. This position will be responsible for ensuring the required pay inputs, processing tasks, and outputs are processed timely to produce paychecks for employees. This position will lead the Payroll team to complete and settle payroll timely and according to policy and regulatory standards. In addition, this individual will identify, troubleshoot, and assist with resolution to errors that may occur. Lastly, this individual will interact with management, vendors, and related business units to manage the proper response to inquiries and audits.

The Daily
• Manage the day to day operations of the US payroll function servicing over 20,000 employees and 50 legal entities
• Manage a multi level payroll org that processes weekly, bi-weekly and monthly payroll cycles for multiple subsidiaries while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and timeliness
• Mentor and coach direct reports, payroll Supervisors, who in turn manage dedicated teams
• Act as point of escalation for audit and testing and work to identify, track, document, and resolve issues and risks proactively with timely further escalation of unresolved items to senior management
• Develop and encourage staff to pursue new tasks and challenges related to overall departmental goals and objectives
• Ensure the timely and accurate processing of all reporting and filing requirements
• The Sr. Manager is the owner of the daily paycheck printing process and will manage relationships with Accounting groups, Treasury and the Banks
• Anticipate, assess, and manage issues and risks independently
• Continuously drive improvements, automation, communication, and education to increase quality, improve employee experience, and enable rapid scaling
• Build strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
• Coordinate with partners, customers and key stakeholders to ensure integration, efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll services as well as addressing business needs with a customer focused and compliant disposition
• Act as point of escalation and work to identify, track, document, and resolve errors, issues and risks proactively
• Be a resource to team to provide them with an understanding of the payroll process as well as assisting with questions regarding pay
• Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for payroll are achieved regularly and deadlines are met
• Identify, prioritize, and manage departmental projects as well as representing payroll's interests in interdepartmental projects including determining payroll impacts, allocation of internal resources, and coordination of any required payroll testing
• Utilize established policies and procedures in making decisions while also using sound independent judgment in issue resolution
• Provide input, make recommendations and/or decisions on employment, retention, development and promotion of indirect and direct report personnel
• Design processes with appropriate levels of control and oversight for outgoing payments and updates to payment information
• Maintain written procedures and knowledge-based reference materials
• Ensure payroll processes are administered in compliance with SOX requirements, internal company policies as well as applicable country, federal and state regulations or legislation, including applicable wage and hour regulations

The Essentials
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalent combination of work experience required.
• CPP or FPC certification preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in payroll operations required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with Workday HR/payroll or other SaaS payroll engine required.
• Experience with Workday, SAP, or PeopleSoft required
• Understanding of federal and state regulations related to salaries, wages, taxes, benefits, and other payroll related matters required.
• Experience with Workday HR/payroll integration and mass data uploads (EIB) preferred.
• Understanding of Motion Picture collective bargaining agreements and union pension health and welfare preferred
• Previous experience in a confidential business environment strongly preferred.
• Experience with a large multi-business unit organization is a plus.
• Experience working in a shared services organization is a plus.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of personnel
• Must be able to organize, prioritize and schedule work effectively.
• Must be able to work well under time constraints.
• Must have excellent analytical skills.
• Must have excellent attention to details.
• Must be a self-starter and a team player.
• Must be able to handle a high volume in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to manage confidential payroll information and uphold the required security restrictions related to confidential pay details.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Excel required.
