The Job
The position supports the content development and production aspects of Stage 13 including negotiating writer, director, producer, production company, talent deals for a wide breadth of unscripted wand scripted projects for the brand. It also includes deals for rights acquisitions and product acquisitions, option-purchase agreements and format rights agreements. This position also all supports all business functions including a very high volume of accelerated activity around format rights, option extensions, negotiating and drafting show licensing agreements for domestic and international distribution of content to 3rd party platforms, in addition to all marketing and promotional clearances for the direct-to-consumer brand, negotiating and drafting long-form agreements for sponsorship, advertising sales client programs and executions, negotiating and drafting agreements with all vendors for every department, managing compliance processes with every department and WB corporate.
The Daily
• Negotiate and structure all deals for writers, directors, actors, producers, and production service companies for full slate of scripted and unscripted series.
• Negotiate all deals for rights acquisitions, including option-purchase agreements and format rights agreements.
• Supervise third party production service companies as they negotiate and structure deal
• Negotiate and draft long-form agreements for scripted and unscripted series, including agreements for writers, directors, producers, actors, option purchase agreements, format rights agreements, production services agreements and license agreement.
• Create, maintain and revise all form agreements related to the production and development of short form content
• Manage production legal services for entire slate of scripted and unscripted series, including clearances, licensing, music licensing, composers, below-the-line, tax incentives, title clearance, chain of title documentation and location and vendor agreements
• Manage compliance with Warner Bros. policy across all business units, including Tax, Finance, Production Planning, Intellectual Property Group, Compliance, Labor, Employment Legal, IP Rights Management, Participations, Privacy, Music and Corporate Legal
• Counsel on issues pertaining to defamation, trademark and copyright
• Track option dates for all scripted and non-scripted projects
• Negotiate and draft agreements to support sales team, including, sponsorships, custom content creation, brand partnerships, integrations and publishing of said assets.
• Negotiate and draft licensing agreements for domestic and international distribution of content on third party platforms and with third party distributors.
• Negotiate and draft agreements with vendors including marketing firms, social media firms, public relations firms, and media insight firms
• Supervise, structure, advise, and implement policies and procedures surrounding the launch of the digital studio and platform, including: FTC compliance, End User License Agreements and compliance with privacy, copyright and trademark laws, and compliance with company's policies.
• Review all marketing and social media promotional strategies and assets for compliance with marketing and advertising laws, and company policies
The Essentials
• B.A. / B.S. degree in related field or equivalent experience required.
• J.D. required from an ABA accredited law school
• Previous experience in the entertainment industry.
• Minimum 7 years work experience performing related job duties concerning this position.
• Production Legal experience
• Working within larger org (law firm, corporate, etc)
• Hollywood agents/producers
• Knowledge of generally accepted business practices.
• PC and Macintosh skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, & File Maker Pro required.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Negotiation skills required.
• Legal Drafting skills required.
