The Job:
The Pre-Press Services Artist supports the department with preparing, assembling, and sending files for physical and digital production. Responsibilities include archiving, scanning, and digital/manual art and lettering corrections. They will also maintain all departmental logs and schedules, and distribution to appropriate parties.
The Daily:
• Receive art files via file transfer (BOX), check specs, clean template, and move on to project folder for next step.
• Make manual/digital art and lettering corrections to all material as required.
• Scan art boards and general clean-up of scans.
• Assist with assembling files for covers, letter pages, interior book pages, special projects, and other related projects.
• Create and check UPC codes for covers.
• Create, maintain, and distribute daily Manufacturing schedules and logs.
• Prepares files for transmission via file transfer (BOX) to Separators and Letterers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
The Essentials:
• Previous art, digital art or related experience required.
• At least two (2) years of work experience using digital technology in publishing environment.
• Ability to successfully work in a team environment and interact with other people required.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have strong drawing skills (portfolio review required).
• Must have the ability to manage multiple project elements and tasks simultaneously.
• Must have the ability to work well under time constraints to meet deadlines.
• Experience with using Wacom equipment.
• Knowledge of production in the digital and print environment required.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) required.
• Knowledge of Mac based peripheral devices required.
• Understanding of how consumers read comic books and can translate the reading experience to a digital format.
The Nice to Haves:
• Related degree from an accredited art school or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Familiarity with comic book creation and art strongly preferred.
• Basic knowledge of hand lettering, paste-ups, mechanicals preferred.
• Knowledge of contemporary art programs (i.e., Clip Studio Paint, Pro Create) preferred.
