Japan Global Business Service (GBS) Finance Manager
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Manager position assisting Financial Accounting areas for Japanese subsidiaries of WarnerMedia Group, a division of AT&T (NYSE). Th position is responsible for the financial accounting and taxation, including USGAAP books, Japan Statutory and Tax books, OTC (Order to Cash) process, financial compliances (internal controls, SOX and various audits), and treasury & AP matters for Warner Bros. Japan LLC (''WBJ''), Warner Bros. Studio Tour Japan LLC (''WBSJ'') and Turner Japan K.K. (''TJ'').
The position will work closely with the Lead of Japan GBS based in Japan and the head of GBS APAC (located in Singapore) on talent development, transformation and delivering high performing and agile Finance functions. The Financial Accounting Manager will also closely collaborate with the Japan Finance (Planning and Strategy) teams, GBS teams of Home Office (Burbank, UK, Atlanta and NY) and APAC, as well as WB Service Delivery Centers (''SDC'') mainly in China and India. Further, tax reporting line is to AT&T Tax APAC in Hong Kong.
Financial Accounting Manager position is responsible to oversee organizing and reporting information in order to meet financial accounting reporting, statutory, internal control, tax and other financial compliance requirements, as well as non-reporting financial operations such as OTC, AP, and treasury for WBJ, TJ and WBSJ.
WarnerMedia is transforming its business to enhance the growth in the rapidly changing technology and consumer behavior in the market. As a result, various transformation initiatives are in execution. Further, the Group plans to launch Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo in Spring 2023 and various preparation is on the way. This position is critical for transforming Financial Accounting operations for integration, quality and efficiency, as well as to manage a newly established legal entity, WBST, for Studio Tour business.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Take overall responsibility to manage Financial Accounting activities conducted in Japan
• Coordinate with GBS teams in Home Office/Regional Office and with SDC mainly in India and China as well as local outsourcing partners to ensure the proper accounting service deliveries
• Exercise an excellent analytical and coordination skills to manage financial and business risks and opportunities for the maximization of business value
• Possess the high standard of integrity as a finance executive and act with it
• Strive for efficiency with inspiration for excellence in quality/accuracy
• Act as a business partner for planning / commercial / production organizations to provide consultation services for accounting/process and efficiency enhancements
• Support and coordinate the execution of new business and process with planning / commercial / production / studio tour organizations
• Lead and/or support various finance projects for business growth, process improvements and enhancement of effectiveness
• Build good relationships with and earn respect from stakeholders and team members by being an objective and critical business partner
• Perform and manage following tasks, but not limited to:
• Financial reports on both USGAAP and statutory bases
• Functions of general ledger accounting
• Monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting to Home Office for all divisions (Theatrical Distribution, Home Entertainment, TV Distribution, Consumer Product divisions, Turner Network and Studio Tour)
• Day-to-day finance related operational/management support to each division
• Cash management & treasury function
• Order to Cash process (customer invoicing to Cash Collection)
• Placement of appropriate internal controls and SOX compliance
• Internal controls reviews and external audit engagements (tax and other audits)
• Tax filing preparation and compliance, collaborating with PWC, WM & AT&T Tax teams
• Accounting of local contents production activities
JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education / Certificates
• BA/BS degree
• USCPA or equivalent is a plus
Knowledge/Skills
• Advance financial accounting technical and compliance knowledge
• Ability to comprehend complex accounting/tax issues and to propose options
• Business-oriented and strategic thinking
• Excellent communicator-oral and written
• Technology / IT literacy (strong Excel skills are essential)
• Native in Japanese
• Proficiency in English (Business writing and negotiation)
• ERP system for multinational operations, SAP experience is a plus
Work Experience
• Minimum 7 years solid experience in financial accounting in either public accounting or private industry
• Experience in working with multinational companies, with direct responsibility with Home Office or overseas operations
