OVERVIEW

Will work to become proficient in all the tasks and systems used by the Content Transmission Staff. The primary tasks are to provide transmission services across News, Sports and Entertainment. The position requires daily interaction with staff and clients in receiving and provisioning transmission requests.

This position requires a willingness to learn and a basic working knowledge of Broadcast Television, various transmission formats over satellite, fiber and IP, related transmit and receive equipment, Turner and CNN internal engineering infrastructure, transmission packages/services and associated internal clients, vendors satellite inventory, vendor fiber networks, and industry contacts. Also, an understanding of the fulltime and occasional use receive and transmit infrastructure that connects Turner and Warner Media locations, CNN bureaus and affiliates, vendors, and remote locations used for planned events and breaking news.

Work closely with key customers, vendors, engineering and operations on the planning, oversight, execution, troubleshooting, and budgeting of transmissions across the group. Manage and track accurate cost accruals and billing to customers, working closely with Business Administration. Must be able to work autonomously and together in executing projects, transmissions plans, and services. Flexibility and understanding to propose or accept alternate transmission or technical solutions to meet customers' needs or budget.

Work to become fully proficient in the current Scheduling System(s) used for provisioning transmissions, cost accruals and billing. Knowledge of daily operations, all internal and external technical systems used to deliver services. Must work well under pressure, be able to multitask, be extremely detail oriented, have great organization skills, communicate effectively, and provide excellent customer service.

This position is part of a 24/7 working broadcast environment that will require a flexible working shift to include days, nights, weekends and overnights. Will be expected to work during planned and high-profile events, breaking news and emergency situations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational and Technical Execution:
Book domestic and international transmission services for CNN, Turner, HBO, Warner Media via fiber, IP, satellite, terrestrial facilities, uplinks, and downlinks for contribution feeds, various shows and remote telecasts.
Order fiber circuits with providers. Acquire IT/Data services, including telephones and specialized circuits for on-site communications. Route IP and HDSDI transmissions and content to various destinations and live broadcasts. Traffic and access trucks and uplinks to internal Ku-band satellite transponders. Leverage shared resources across the groups. Coordinate power, parking, set up, testing, telecommunication and transmission requirements with Field Engineers and Remote Tech Managers. Provide accurate budget forecasts, cost recording/accruals and provide approve vendor billing for clients.

Customer Service:
Work closely with key customers, vendors, engineering, and operations on the planning, oversight, execution, troubleshooting, and budgeting of transmissions across the group.

Problem solving:

Prior to air, confirm facilities and trouble shoot problems with remote site. Before and during transmissions and events work with vendors, customers, remote sites, BEST Engineering, and operations to resolve transmission issues.

Consult:
Provide creative and innovative transmission solutions to clients (internal & external) and partners.

DIMENSIONS

The Content Transmission has an operations team of Content Transmission Specialists I, II and III's, a Director of Technical Operations and Events, a Senior Operations Manager, two Managers of Events Planning, two Operations Managers and one VP.

Total number of contribution feeds via satellite, fiber and IP across News, Sports, and Entertainment

The operating budget includes CNN lines leased/video fibers and occasional satellite and fiber video contribution feeds

PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE

Experience or knowledge of Broadcast TV transmissions and live remote events

Knowledge of transmission systems, technologies and providers

Customer service and organizational skills customers

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

College Degree, preferable Communications or Technical.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, LICENSING, OR CERTIFICATION (i.e., not required)

Previous Television, Broadcast to satellite or fiber industry experience.
