Job Description
Your New Role...This position is primarily responsible for helping to strategically manage the company's patent portfolio, including all patent prosecution and maintenance activities across all lines of business. The Senior Counsel, IP will work directly with inventors and external counsel to evaluate inventions, assess patentability and prosecute domestic and foreign patent applications. The Senior Counsel will support company initiatives involving the patent portfolio, including licensing and monetization, will support matters related to open source, and advise on IP issues in technology agreements. In addition, the Senior Counsel may be asked to assist with trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement matters.
The ideal candidate is a member in good standing of the patent bar with subject matter expertise in media/ streaming/ wireless related technologies, and has an ability to strategically manage a large, diversified patent portfolio in a fast-paced environment.
Your Role Accountabilities...
• Patent Harvesting – Work with employee inventors to evaluate inventions and assess patentability. Manage day to day operation of patent filing program.
• Patent Prosecution – Prepare, file and prosecute applications involving new inventions with the United States Patent & Trademark Office or manage external counsel doing same.
• Evaluation of patent infringement claims
• Support company initiatives involving the patent portfolio, including licensing and monetization, and advise on open source matters.
• Manage patent budget. Manage paralegal tasked with maintaining patent docket and associated files.
• Trademark – manage all aspects of a discreet trademark/brand portfolio, including performing trademark searches, prosecuting trademark applications (foreign and domestic) and managing Opposition/Cancellation actions (foreign and domestic). This part of the role will be supported by broader trademark paralegal team.
Qualifications and Experience...
• 5-8 years of experience as an IP attorney with strong patent background with a law firm or in-house
• Strong technical background relevant to media/ streaming/ wireless related technologies
• Experience with open source strongly desired
• Experience with trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement strongly desired
• BA/BS degree in a technical field
• JD, member in good standing of State Bar; member in good standing of Patent Bar.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and autonomously
• Attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, communicating directly with clients and partners
• In-depth knowledge of patent law and prosecution protocols

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $159,723.00 - $296,629.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
