Job Description

The Role

As a Lead Environment Artist you will be expected to lead the Environment art team and work alongside Designers, other Artists, Programmers and Producers on a day-to-day basis, conceptualising and creating a wide range of environmental artwork for our games that achieve the production and quality goals set for the project. You will also work closely with the Art Director in setting the style and quality standard for the games.

You will be expected to estimate timescales for your tasks in advance and deliver milestones as part of the development process. You should be able to show creative leadership to the Environment Art team, inspiring them to work to their potential and take pride in what they produce.

You will be an experienced and passionate individual who takes your career in environment art seriously. You will need to be extremely creative, but also able to apply logic and analytical thought to the medium. You will also be able to communicate your ideas well both verbally and in writing, and take pride in seeing your ideas come to fruition over the development process.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead a team of environment artists in helping create, place, and light environmental assets and terrains under the direction of the Art Director.
• Attend reviews of work as required (with any info relevant to task – gameplay/block-out/ref/resources).
• Have a strong knowledge of the production pipeline and be able to provide recommendations to improve pipeline efficiency.
• Work with art leads to help guide and mentor other artists to improve the knowledge and performance of others.
• Enthusiastically develop and improve skillset by keeping aware of industry trends and techniques, evaluating different products, and learning new software packages.
• Regularly reviewing employee performance through appraisals and 1-2-1's to ensure performance targets and expected behaviours are delivered.
• Assist in the recruitment and probationary reviews of new employees in conjunction with Art Directors and the Head of Art
• Undertake relevant on-the-job training where required.

Required:
• Vast experience creating environment art for video games.
• Proficiency in Maya, Photoshop and UE4/5 or equivalent engine
• Good demonstration of skills through CV/Showreel/Website or Art Tests
• Excellent communication and organisation skills
• Practical and methodical approach to both technical and creative problem-solving
• Excellent working knowledge of content creation pipeline (modelling, UV, texturing, lighting, and Shaders)
• Flexible approach with the ability to adapt with change.

Advantageous:
• Comfortable working and developing in a multi-platform, multi-project environment.
• Experience with source control programmes such as Perforce & SVN.
• Use of production tracking tools such as JIRA & Confluence.
• Experience of performance evaluation and associated tools.
