The Job

The Head of Legal & Business Affairs WBTVPUK, part of the Warner Bros. Discovery group (WBD), has overall responsibility for the provision of support provided by the legal and business affairs teams relating to non-scripted and scripted television production activities across the WBTVPUK Group.

This role will oversee WBTVPUK Group legal and business affairs policy and programming processes.

The position will supervise and support the WBTVPUK production legal team on production legal and business affairs matters relating to the Group's programming, including negotiating and drafting development and production agreements, format licenses and all other rights agreements including talent and contributor agreements.

This role will also manage all lawyers/paralegals in the UK legal team, including lawyers based in London and any other locations, as may arise from time to time.

The Daily
• Overseeing the production legal and business affairs operations across the TVPUK Group, to ensure consistency across the TVPUK Group, best practice, and to maximize returns
• Responsibility for (i) management of scripted and non-scripted legal and business affairs teams in the TVPUK Group to ensure delivery of consistent legal and business affairs policies and processes across the TVPUK Group; and (ii) ensuring the provision of a first-class legal and business affairs service
• Working with the Senior Counsel roles in the TVP UK Group and the TVPUK Commercial teams to (i) identify, formulate and implement systems to deliver a ''best in class'' service; and (ii) ensure that contracts deliver the best possible legal and business affairs outcomes
• Managing the production legal process across the UK programming slate, including overseeing TVPUK lawyers and the legal advice given to production staff on all production and compliance issues (such as chain-of-title and clearance issues, talent and contributor agreements, access and location agreements, producer agreements, option and literary purchase agreements, production services agreements, assignments, releases and rights agreements, compliance and libel matters)
• Providing senior legal advice, as required, including TVPUK Group broadcaster/SVOD negotiations, escalated legal issues, significant production/talent deals and financing (including deficit, co-finance and co-production scenarios)
• Working with the Commercial team, to ensure the timely and accurate provision of information and deliverables to the Warner Bros. programme and format sales teams (WBITVP and WBITD)
• Ensuring timely and effective communication with Warner Bros. on all rights and distribution issues, as well as organising the provision of accurate information

The Essentials
• Thorough knowledge of legal and business affairs processes impacting the development, production and exploitation of television content
• Extensive knowledge of IP rights, ancillary rights exploitation and new content creation issues
• Ability to lead negotiations and to draft complex production contracts including development, financing, production, talent, formats both in the UK and internationally
