Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) combines the best in artistry and storytelling with cutting-edge technology to bring wonderful new characters and adventures to the big screen for audiences around the world. Our Information Services team strives to design and develop solutions, as well as integrate 3rd party products, to optimize our internal business processes (e.g. Analytics, Production Management, HR, Training and Finance).
A Senior Data Engineer in Information Services (IS) will be expected to be the subject matter expert in the field of data processing and management within our studio. As such, we are looking for someone who has a strong background in leading projects from start to end and establishing best data practices/policies. A major part of this role includes working closely with many stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds to understand their data needs, design and build consensus around appropriate data solutions, and implement those plans in a timely manner. We are looking for someone who is a flexible leader able to work in ambiguous environments, has a natural curiosity to continually learn about the technology in this space, and loves sharing relevant finds with others.
Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years of expertise in designing, building and maintaining optimized/highly available data pipelines that facilitate deeper analysis and reporting by various analytic teams
• Strong level of experience scripting in Python
• Experience serving as a resource for data technologies and as an advocate for adopting modern/streamlined ways of dealing with data.
• Comfortable with SQL, Rest APIs, and GraphQL to extract data and build tables
• Solid experience with data integration toolsets and writing and maintaining ETL jobs
• Familiarity with Data Modeling techniques and Data Warehousing standard methodologies and practices
• Set a positive example in using healthy debate to resolve differences and build consensus among diverse stakeholders/decision makers
• Deep partnership and empathy with stakeholders to gain understanding of workflows and requirements
• Deliver detailed updates and statuses on specific bugs, features, or tasks within a project.
• Mentor and nurture users within the studio who have an interest in data engineering and will look towards the person in this role for guidance and advice.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with one or more of these are a bonus
• Snowflake experience a plus
• Experience with Apache Kafka preferred
• Experience with developing for and deploying in cloud-native infrastructure like AWS, GCP, etc
• Experience with analytical tools like Tableau, R/R Studio
• Experience with distributed systems such as Spark, Hadoop (or similar) Ecosystem (MapReduce, Yarn, HDFS, Hive, Presto, Pig, HBase)
• Experience implementing environments for machine learning toolsets
