The Senior Photo Editor will work with the Photography Director as well as the editor of Vulture and our Culture Editors to oversee, facilitate, and contribute to the editing and presentation of photography and photographic treatments for the site and the magazine's print Culture section, as well as collaborate with photo teams across all of our brands, aligning with the company's mission to unify the overall photographic language across all platforms.
The Senior Photo Editor seeks to ensure smooth operation of high-volume photo production in support and expression of our editorial voice and goals. They strive to do so while pursuing visual/photographic ambition that creatively maximizes available time and resources. This role requires an equal balance of creativity and organization.

What you'll do:
• Work with editors at Vulture to select images for posts across the site on tight deadlines
• Serve as lead photo editor of our biweekly print magazine's culture section and contribute to the feature well, working closely with editors to conceptualize and execute photography solutions
• Source images for design team and illustrators when needed, as well as occasional after hours events such as award shows, breaking news or other large culture events that will require photo support
• Complete in-depth photo research for longer term projects focused on a single blog and finding existing bodies of work pertaining to the assignment
• Optimize images technically and visually for publication online and in print: color correction and siloing
• Coordinate retouching needs, delivery of images, and deadlines with artists
• Work collaboratively with New York Media teams on special projects
• Ensure images are properly licensed; negotiate and handle license agreements with photo agencies
• Maintain image metadata to ensure accurate credit and caption information are preserved
• Other responsibilities as assigned by photo director
What you'll bring:
• At least 5 years of experience in photo editing, preferably in the media/publishing space
• A passion for cultural news and entertainment coverage
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software, especially Photoshop. Strong image editing skills in color-correction; selection and compositing, image sizing, batch processing and photo-manipulation are particularly important
• An ability to work independently and in collaboration with others to identify the best means of illustrating a large volume of stories with a quick turnaround
• Strong communication skills and a team player
• Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience
