Job Description
WHO WE ARE
We're seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join our Product Analytics team to help drive Vox Media's subscriptions strategy. The ideal candidate is confident and creative in their data analysis; can effectively communicate results and recommendations to business and product leaders; and can confidently lead collaboration across technical, design, product, and business groups.
The Product Analytics team is part of a growing Analytics Department that consists of SEO, Product Analytics, and Newsroom Analytics. Our mission is to use data to help Vox Media grow our audiences and businesses.
This role reports to the Director, Product Analytics.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Work closely with business, product, and engineering counterparts to build reporting and analyses to help inform our subscriptions business strategy
• Make data-informed recommendations to business leaders and product managers on new or better ways to improve our users' experiences
• Set up data models using Google BigQuery that can power everything from executive-level KPI business reporting to exploratory dashboards to help our cross-team partners make strategic decisions
• Build analytics models to inform our user engagement strategy by connecting complex, disparate data sources, communicating those findings to VP-level stakeholders, and incorporating their feedback into new iterations of the model
• Partner with Data Engineering teams to establish data modeling and governance best practices for Analytics teams
• Become the subject-matter expert for metrics and reporting in your field – understand why stakeholders need what they need, communicate data gaps, advocate for new metrics if needed, and then work with engineering and product teams to build them
• Document your models, reports, and dashboards, and write how-to guides to support stakeholders across Vox Media
• Maintain strong relationships with revenue, product, editorial, design, and engineering teams to build the best user experience possible
WHO YOU ARE
• 2+ years of relatable data analytics experience
• Proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets, Looker, LookML, Looker Studio, Tableau, or other dashboarding platforms
• Proficiency in database querying languages such as MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Google BigQuery, or Snowflake
• Experience with Google Analytics, Parse.ly, or other behavioral tracking platforms
• You are analytical and detail oriented, with a passion-not just for reporting data-but digging deeper to identify underlying themes around key trends, results and critical outcomes
Bonus points for:
• Experience using data modeling software such as R, Python, Stata, Matlab, or SAS
• Familiarity with a wide array of statistical methods and techniques, including regression analysis, principal component analysis, clustering, and sampling.
• Familiarity with best practices around project management, data governance, and/or reporting documentation
