The Refinery29 Photo Team is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, proactive, and creative Senior Photo Editor to contribute to a fast-paced photo department. This position will work closely with the Executive Photography Director to lead image production and direction across verticals from fashion, beauty, wellness, entertainment, etc. You will also have a core understanding of our branded content business to evolve and grow our photography experiences with our advertisers. A photo editing background that includes fashion editorial is required. This person is equal parts a creative visionary and an expert producer.
Responsibilities:
• Be the key stake-holder on creative for the projects that you are assigned
• Concepting and presenting creative treatments
• Assembling creative teams for photo shoots, including photographers, hair, makeup, and stylists • Coordinating shoot timelines and communicating with all, including talent
• Securing locations
• Art directing photo shoots on set and handling image selection in post
• Tracking and reconciling budgets
• Resizing images for web
• Compiling photo credits
• Managing, training and mentoring junior staff
• Developing and maintaining relationships with upcoming photographers who are on the rise as part of the Refinery29 ethos to be a platform for fresh and emerging talent
• Concepting photo ideas and packages for pre-sale
• Deeply understand our mission and values, ensuring they translate into actionable practices employed by the entire photo team
• Advance how the Refinery29 brand is expressed through photography by evolving established brand guidelines and continuously exploring new ways to enhance our work in photography
• Serve as a brand & photography ambassador to the creative community, championing R29 photo work internally and externally while growing our network
Qualifications
You have these:
• 5+ years of experience as a photo editor in an editorial or advertising photo department
• Experience working at a Brand, Media Company or Agency (Ideally some combination of the three)
• Significant on set experience (including experience leading celebrity and/or client facing projects)
• Experience working with a team ranging in skill set and career level, providing mentorship to junior team members
• Proactive problem solver and great collaborator
• Established relationships with creatives throughout the photo industry
• Deep understanding of photography and shoot production across a range of executions, from big productions to small, across various content categories
• Ability to craft an opportunity to its highest potential, regardless of budget, with a dedication to excellence
• Strong industry relationships with photographers, agencies, studios
• Experience collaborating and managing up and down in an organization, developing strong relationships
• The ability to be an example of positive change: experimenting to improve on ideas, concepts, and processes to make creative work stronger
