Role x You

VMG is looking for a sharp, proactive, assertive and detail-oriented Production Manager to work on Custom Editorial and Video content across Refinery29 and i-D (and VICE). The Production Manager will work closely with the Associate Director, Commercial Production, and the i-D and Custom Editorial production leads, to scope and deliver our output for a range of exciting brands.

You will ensure that productions run smoothly from pitch to execution, meet deadlines, are compliant, safe and stay within budgets whilst delivering great content to the highest standard from a visual and commercial perspective.

You must have excellent financial acumen, with experience writing and managing multiple budgets and be able to competently cost report. You will be excellent with excel. You will also be able to write and manage multiple and changing schedules and have a good understanding of the post- production process.

You will have run international shoot set ups and have the ability to pull together a crew. Health and safety and risk assessment writing are essential, as is production expertise in legal and rights & compliance.

The Ideal candidate will have varied production experience covering both written editorial, photography, social video and short/mid-form video across branded, fashion and documentary production.

Responsibilities
• Writing and managing all budgets and schedules, working closely with the other commercial teams during pre-sale to ensure production is scoped accurately and creatively to deliver the most ambitious creative vision in a competitive way.
• Set expectation of executing best in class content work that is consistently on time, on scope and on budget
• Track and report spends, keeping a neat and up-to-date cost manager at all times, and providing accurate financial reporting and analysis of overspend/underspend for Senior Management, ensuring learnings are fed back into future scopes.
• You will understand the risk and challenges of projects and be able to respond to and proactively manage solutions with the team as well as consistently bring a positive and calm outlook to find solutions
• Help develop the VMG talent network and negotiate fair but competitive rates with all talent, crew, fixers and contractors, both in the UK and internationally. Contract and manage vendors to ensure all budgets, schedule, licensing requirements and creative expectations are met.
• Work closely with the relevant managers/agents/directors to ensure constant communication on the project, updating Account Management and Creative Lead team throughout.
• Deliver multiple production schedules from start to finish, ensuring these schedules are harmonious across all live projects.
• Oversee and take ownership of the health & safety of all staff and crew on shoots, instilling best practises within the team.
• Approve all risk assessments and call sheets, using third party suppliers where necessary.
• Have experience with insurance claims and securing adequate cover via insurance brokers.
• Ensure all shoots meet legal requirements and compliance and obtain all necessary rights and clearances
• During filming, duties include: making sure that the production runs to schedule and budget, managing the talent, director, crew on set/location
• Overseeing location bookings and arranging any necessary permits and permissions.
• Oversee (in conjunction with Production Coordinator/s) all travel bookings and logistics including visas, permits, vaccinations and accreditations.
• Good technical understanding of both camera equipment and post production
• Oversee the post-production process and manage delivery of all assets
• Manage the Production Coordinator/s
• Shoots may require flexible working hours and overseas travel

Qualifications:

You have these:
• You'll be full of ambition, be proactive with your approach and above all, an excellent and enthusiastic communicator.
• A proven track record of leading editorial productions across a range of budgets and timelines, with an understanding of how and when to scale production value up or down.
• You will ideally have experience working on global brands with a fashion / luxury / beauty / travel background.
• You will be comfortable working across the integrated process, spanning creative development, production and delivery.
• You will understand the attitude required to work in a small to medium sized team; you'll be happy to chip in wherever required within the creative process and always champion the work!
• You have a strong experience of producing content for brands and an understanding of how to communicate production approaches, restrictions and developments effectively.
• This is a personality-first, relationship-oriented team so outgoing with great communications and a willingness to be vocal and involved is an absolute must for this role.
• You have the ability to work well under pressure and flexibility in coping with rapidly changing circumstances.
• To undertake such other tasks including general administrative duties as may be required from time to time.
• To be an ambassador for the business and the brand at all times.
