Role x You
VICE Media is seeking a talented iOS engineer to join our Mobile Engineering Team and participate in the development of the company's flagship iOS apps. The engineer will collaborate closely with other engineers to progress native development across the VICE ecosystem as well as help build the next generation of VICE mobile experiences.
In the short term
• Take on a pivotal role in the development of a SwiftUI-first internal iOS application
• Innovate and iterate to improve the app's performance and user experience
• Collaborate with the engineering team to improve code design patterns and maximise test coverage
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with team members, designers, backend engineers, platform team and other stakeholders to define and ship new features in a fast paced environment
• Contribute to improvements in coding standards, best practices and team productivity
• Stay on top of new APIs, design patterns, and other technical developments in the mobile community
• Resolve issues and bugs in the existing VICE apps
You have these
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience working primarily in iOS
• Experience building applications using SwiftUI
• A collaborative mindset with focus and attention to detail in written and verbal communication
• Strong sense of product ownership and self-directed approach
• Solid understanding and application of best practices for productivity
• Experience with offline storage, asynchronous programming techniques, networking, multithreading, and performance tuning
• Experience working in a diverse remote team environment
• Understanding of Apple's Human Interface Guidelines
• Deeply passionate about design and user experience
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate on technical challenges
• Demonstrated experience building products with video as the primary medium
We'd love if you also have these
• Experience with SwiftUI and declarative UI development
• Familiarity with FFmpeg, AVFoundation, Metal or other video processing libraries
• Experience with Accessibility features and compliance
• Managing complex user flows and authentication states
• Experience with mobile native automated testing best practices
• Experience with modern video streaming technologies and optimising rich multimedia workflows
• Familiarity with Kotlin Multiplatform development
