VMG x Team
The Product & Engineering (P&E) department is responsible for all of VMG's global product needs, both consumer facing, like the VICE.com or Refinery29.com platforms, and to support internal operations and content creation, like Stories Studio, our proprietary social stories production app for editors. The Product team owns VMG's digital web, native and API products and executes the product strategy, keeping tabs with stakeholders across the digital business. The Product team works closely with P&E's designers and engineers to maintain, update, evolve and ideate our product portfolio.
Role x You
The Associate Director, Consumer Product has product ownership of our flagship consumer platforms: VICE, Refinery29 and i-D. You are the gatekeeper of VMG's consumer product strategy, collaborating with stakeholders across the business to turn that strategy into world class digital media experiences. You are supported by web, DTC and native specialists that you inspire with your hunger for innovation, industry experience and pragmatic nature. You understand the intricacies of web and native products and speak the language of product designers and engineers. You are no stranger to the world of publishing and social media and see opportunities where others see roadblocks. You like to keep it simple, but understand the complexities that come with products that are used by millions of users. You understand what our audience craves for and can engage your team to deliver on that promise. You can describe a complex idea to both a child and professor.
In the short term you get acquainted with the team, products and strategy and act as the point of contact for consumer product related matters
But after 6 months in this role, we see your fingerprints on the successful evolution of our consumer platforms
And after a year you helped VMG evolving its consumer products to be industry leading
Accountabilities:
• Ownership of core platform, DTC and native products and its road map
• Management of web and app product managers/specialists
• Help design and execute consumer product strategy
• Stakeholder management
Qualifications
You have these:
• Work in product design or engineering for 5+ years, preferably at a large scale digital media company
• Experience delivering products to global audiences and a strong understanding of the unique considerations various markets require
• Ability to communicate and present to leadership, designers, engineers, project managers, analysts and other stakeholders
• Ability to develop measurable goals and standards for product planning and delivery
• Understanding of digital audiences, research and analytics
We'd love if you also had these:
• Experience working with subscription, affiliate or e-commerce based models
• Subject matter expertise in Product Management and in consumer-facing applications and products
