This is an incredibly exciting time to join the UMG for Brands (https://www.umgb.com/) Media Finance team at Universal Music Group. This dynamic team drives the strategic vision for one of UMG's key initiatives, focused on being an active player in the advertising landscape as an independent strategy and consulting business collaborating with brands, agencies and media platforms to create music related advertising. This team is charged with bringing brands and media content to market leveraging UMG's world-renowned artists and content.
Reporting to the VP/Controller, Commercial Services, the Senior Director will head up the FP&A functions for the UMG for Brands Media team. This position is a ''hands-on'' role, working in unison with the UMG for Brands Media team on P&L modeling for media buying & selling, social amplification, sponsorship & endorsement deals and all other music for brands related areas. The Senior Director will also work closely with Label Finance teams administering brand deals across the group.
This position can be based in Los Angeles, CA or New York, New York with minimal travel as needed.
How you'll CREATE:
• Own the financial planning, modeling, and results of the UMG for Brands Media business. Will think strategically about the business across its various components and partner with labels and executives on business objectives.
• Collaborate directly with UMG for Brands EVP, SVPs and sales enablement team to model prospective deals for media sales, branded content, social amplification, sponsorships and music consulting services with agencies and brands.
• Work with the Global Marketing team to understand, track and optimize UMG media spend efficiency, operational and traffic acquisition costs, cost savings, as well as margin and effectiveness on media sales.
• Provide unbiased partnership and a financial lens to critical decisions that will have long term impacts on our business model.
• Oversee functions related to the core FP&A duties for the UMG for Brands business, including corporate monthly close, annual operating plan, and interim forecasts.
• Collaborate with SVP Finance digital strategy lead to help model and track new advertising partnerships and products with digital service providers and streaming platforms.
• Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and financial analyses to provide insight into the organization's operations and business plans.
• Partner with central accounting services to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function.
• Ensure maintenance of appropriate divisional internal controls and financial procedures.
• Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
Bring your VIBE:
• Bachelor's degree in finance with strong accounting acumen; a CPA would be a plus.
• A minimum of 10+ years of financial management, analysis, reporting and business planning with strong strategic, analytical and finance skills.
• Prior media sector experience at a Global enterprise, advertising agency, DSP/SSP, programmatic advertising exchange or an advertising network.
• Experience with advertising-based business models including upfront advertising commitments and insertion orders, subscription-based models and/or media marketing/promotion models, especially in media, is highly desirable. Experience with setting rate cards, optimizing media mix, and data sales, as well as prior experience in or knowledge of Entertainment or Music accounting a plus.
• Understanding of Digital Media on AVOD (advertising video on demand) platforms to drive sales, and typical deal structures between platforms, publishers and advertisers.
• Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills including experience developing presentations for senior leaders.
• Must have the legal right to work in the U.S
Salary Range: $94,500 - $209,000
The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
