The Job
Turner Services Inc. seeks a Sr Database Administrator for the META - IO Network Augment department. The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for leading the design and implementation of new databases, monitoring, and maintaining existing databases, resolving complex database issues, optimizing performance, and implementing protocols for disaster recovery and security. This may include providing task direction, mentoring, and project management to other team members.
The Daily
• Assist other DBAs with complex problems and analyze and resolve issues using database tools. Determine, implement, and oversee the need for database maintenance and communicate/coordinate with affected customers, minimizing business interruption wherever possible.
• Provide 24x7 customer response to requests for support on database performance issues by participating in an on-call rotation. Provide advice, task direction, and guidance to other DBAs and correct and communicate resolution through appropriate channels.
• Recommend long-term technology solutions in accordance with an understanding of the methodology, architecture, and business needs of the organization. Understands thoroughly technology that enables and allows dita migration across various platforms, storage arrays etc.
• Work with other DBAs, System Engineers, Software Developers, and appropriate parties to coordinate integration and ensure compatibility of hardware, operating systems, database tools, and applications. Maintain database performance by monitoring space, CPU usage, query performance through monitoring tools, fragmentation of data, etc.
• Ensure database integrity by developing, documenting, communicating, managing and enforcing protocols involving changes to database structure, data, procedures, and user access.
• Develop, communicate, and carry out procedures designed to facilitate recovery from database failure, such as online backups, archiving, and exports.
• Collaborate with project teams to evaluate new database needs. Review the proposed logical and physical database models, consult with the Data Architect as appropriate, and participate in creation of the final database structure as necessary.
The Essentials
• Minimum of five (5) years experience of relational database with expert knowledge with at least two (2) of the following platforms:
Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, DB2. Aurora or cloud DB technologies a plus.
• Advanced experience coding, modifying and maintaining SQL (e.g., T-SQL, Powershell, Korn, bash, Ruby, SQLPlus, Python)
• Experience with Windows, LINUX/UNIX
• Experience with a variety of hardware and operating systems
• Demonstrated proficiency with ETL and migration processesBS in Computer Science, MIS, business, or equivalent education/training/experience Professional certification (e.g., Master Oracle DBA) preferred Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB, DB2 and PostgreSQL
• MongoDB or NoSQL a plus
• Experience with tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager/GRID, MySQL Enterprise Monitor, Zabbix, Nagios.
