THE TEAM
This position will be a part of the Private Cloud team. The team is responsible for Ticketmaster's core private cloud on-prem infrastructure at a global scale. The mission of the team is to build and maintain reliable, scalable and secure private cloud services which can be easily consumed or used by technology teams via API's or self-service tools. Automation is in our DNA and we strive to make our services simple and easy to use. The current platform is based on Apache CloudStack (KVM) and Microsoft Hyper-V, with upcoming plans for VMware.
Team Responsibilities and Focus:
• Standards and enforcement of access management
• Maintaining standard IaC tooling and related product release schedule
• Designing scalable, automated and maintainable private cloud platform solutions
• Design and architecture of future private cloud architectures
• Working with internal groups, such as Information Security, Network Engineering, Data Center Ops, Managed OS and Cost Optimization to establish best practices and implementation around operating systems, IaC, security, networking and efficiency
• Implementation of controls to satisfy PCI requirements and participation in continuous monitoring and auditing activities
• Provide consultation and operational support work to development teams
• Education and evangelization of private cloud related capabilities
• Active participation in agile practices and cross departmental program management
THE JOB
Ticketmaster is seeking a talented Systems Engineer responsible for managing and designing our private cloud solution. You will be responsible for the overall reliability of these infrastructure services supporting critical business applications. You will design and implement the tools that automate building and operating reliable systems. You will be supporting a high-volume 24x7 production environment, as well as development and test environments. You will be maintaining a large number of Windows Hyper-V hypervisor clusters and Linux KVM hypervisors / CloudStack clusters (hosting thousands of VMs), and will be a key player in the implementation of our next generation private cloud platform, based on VMware. You will write tools to automate routine and complex tasks, and troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues. The position includes collaboration with development teams to design a scalable and supportable service-oriented architecture. This role will be expected to be, or quickly become, a virtualization subject matter expert, and help drive efforts to improve automation and tooling. This role is not directly responsible for the supported VMs or applications, but rather for the platform supporting those.
This is an exciting time to come on board with Ticketmaster, as we look to the ''Return to Live''. We will be focusing on efforts towards modernization and operability, expanding capacity, and enhancing our private cloud platform in a number of ways.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
• Provide subject matter expertise for our private cloud virtualization platforms
• Proactively identify and address stability, capacity, and performance concerns
• Implement provisioning and deployment automation / IaC solutions
• Identify, develop, & implement solutions to other needs for process automation
• Complete assigned project related work from Jira tickets following Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology
• Checking in code for infrastructure build, automation, & tests to version control repository (GitLab)
• Support PCI / security compliance requirements (upgrades, defect management, etc)
• Regularly work with Jira, GitLab, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk
• Liaise with other teams (Networking, Data Center Ops, Security, etc) as required
• Respond to, recover from, and prevent future occurrences of failures & outages
• Participate in on-call and potentially some after-hours support as required
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• Intermediate to advanced virtualization related concepts to possibly include VMWare, KVM, QEMU, libvirt / libvirtd, Xen, Microsoft Failover Hyper-V Clustering
• Intermediate level understanding of virtual compute concepts (such as: hyperthreading, hypervisor scheduling, NUMA balancing, steal time)
• Intermediate level understanding of networking concepts, including VMware NSX, SDN, VLANs, virtual switching, network segmentation, RDMA, RoCE
• Intermediate level understanding of storage concepts, especially as related to virtualization (vSAN, Storage Spaces Direct, etc)
• Proficient at scripting (PowerShell, Python, GoLang, etc), with demonstrable automation experience, and working with APIs.
• Experience managing large-scale Windows and/or Linux infrastructure across public cloud and/or private data centers
• Experience implementing automation / configuration management solutions with tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, etc
• Experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile/iterative methodologies
• Various other products in our tool set you will need to use regularly: GitLab, Prometheus, Grafana, Jira
