The Mill's Technology Team are responsible for ensuring the technical systems and equipment are implemented and working to their optimum to underpin the successful operation of the business.

The Systems Infrastructure Engineer will work closely with the Technology team to deliver excellent client service and a strong research & development, planning, implementation and maintenance plan for all video equipment at The Mill's London office. The Mill's departments include 2D, Colour Grading suites, Design, Studio, 3D, Technical Operations, Adtext and BEAM.

The Systems Infrastructure Engineer will support the Technology team to maintain, support and upgrade onsite and offsite equipment, software and cabling. They will also provide advice and support to clients, producers, creative artists, technical staff and senior management with regard to technical issues.

The Systems Infrastructure Engineer will have responsibility for assisting the Technology Leads and Head of Technology in the planning and installation of unique projects – for example, when clients require an unusual workflow.

The Systems Infrastructure Engineer will provide leadership, guidance and support for the other engineers.

As required, the Systems Infrastructure Engineer will carry out technical research of current technologies including work stations, broadcast equipment, colour imagery and software and recommend appropriate action ie. upgrade, replace, rewire, reconfigure etc.

This role is a shift based role and you will be required to take on weekend on-call duties.Flexible work is available.

Responsibilities:

Management/Supervisory
• Delegate and supervise tasks to other engineers as required.
• Implementation and delivery of projects under the supervision of the Technology Leads.
• Maintain an efficient and pro-active installation and maintenance programme.
• Liaise with senior technical staff at the Mill sites in the LA, New York and Chicago offices to ensure cross-integration and efficiency on systems and workflow
• Research and develop new technologies and methods in the Film and Video Post-Production industry and attend events/tradeshows.

Technical

Assist the Technology Leads with the daily maintenance of all Mill London equipment through both pro-active and re-active technical support of a range of equipment including Windows ,Mac and Linux, Professional video equipment such as Flame suites, Colour Grading suites, AFX, Studio, Nuke, 3D workstations, Tech Ops and Beam suites. To include;
• Non Linear Colour Correction software and hardware (Baselight, Resolve)
• Data Storage (SAN) and asset management systems
• Autodesk high end compositing and editing systems (Flame/Flare)
• Computer operating systems (Linux/MacOS/Windows), 2D/3D video and graphic manipulation packages and desktop productivity applications
• Monitor Calibration
• Routine maintenance of 2D workstations, monitors and VTRs
• Meeting rooms – ensure they are in full working order and prepped for any VCs and meetings
• Maintenance and testing of workflow pipelines eg. Reach, Tx, wips, colour, 2d etc
• Support of Microsoft Office
• Specialist support of studio systems
• Support and licensing of Nuke, Maya etc plus associated plugins
• Utilise ticketing systems (Jira) and respond to requests in a timely and efficient manner, managing expectations as required.
• Keep technical documentation via Confluence current and up to date.
• Maintain Colourspace, pipeline and companywide colour and monitoring standards.

Key Performance Indicators:
• Successful delivery of excellent customer service and positive feedback i.e. systems, response times, turnaround, and quality of support service
• Successful installation of projects to deadline and budget
• Successful implementation of maintenance and upgrades plan
• Assist in maintaining The Mill's technical lead in the post production field in comparison to competitors.
• Manage and troubleshoot complex jobs often several at a time and hit all deadlines.
• • All hardware and software systems kept well maintained and up to date
• First line support of workstation, network and server infrastructure.
• System admin including Active Directory and DNS.
• Installation using JSS, SmartImager and Puppet.

Qualifications
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Technology
• Experience as an Engineer within professional film and video, television environment would be an advantage.
• Experience of team leadership and management an advantage.
• Specialist knowledge and working experience of:
• Linux/MacOS/Windows and various office packages.
• Autodesk Flame/Flare/Smoke, Baselight, AFX, Adobe CC, Nuke, 3D workstations, Tech Ops and Beam pipeline components.
• Video wiring, Video Routing, Audio wiring, Audio routing, System design
• Fault diagnosis to component level,
• Non -linear editing devices, FCP, Adobe CC
• Disk based storage,
• Broadcast quality monitoring,
• Television standards, both regional and international.
• First line support of workstation, network and server infrastructure.
