The role of the Senior Color Assistant is a dual role, bridging assistant team and colorist to production. Although the senior assistant defaults to the Colorists, they must also have the confidence and ability to deal with clients and their requests and to work on jobs without supervision. 

They must have a highly developed sense of color imagery coupled with a strong creative and aesthetic sensibility and an in-depth knowledge of the whole post-production process including current technical specifications of film, video and data formats.  They will be required to be aware of all projects in the color suites at all times throughout their working day, liaise directly with the color producers and other members of the wider production team not only in the studio in which they are located but throughout the company in different locations. Management of the other assistants is an essential part of this position. It is expected that the Senior Assistant will advise and attend meetings when required.

The Senior Color Assistant is required to work towards achieving the same creative and technical attributes as a colorist. They are responsible for guiding and mentoring the junior employees in the color department to ensure their technical and creative development.

Responsibilities 

PRE & DURING SESSIONS
• Attend and contribute to workflow meetings.
• Act as a liaison between production and color, advise and inform where required.
• Gather sufficient information for colorist and brief Colorist prior to the session.
• Check all suites are ready for the first bookings of the day.
• Foresee issues and problem areas and notify relevant producers/scheduling.
• Liaise with data lab to prepare for any jobs coming up.
• Assist where necessary in suites, prep room/data lab.
• Ability to match grade extra shots, run through set ups when the Colorist isn't available.
• Ensure that email requests are tended to promptly and addressed thoroughly.

POST SESSION
• Ensure LOOP is updated with a brief synopsis of color session and any useful pathways or links.
• Ensure instructions for Layoffs and prep are disseminated amongst the team prior to end of day and any concerns from the colorists are communicated.
• Update producers/2D/3D with information where necessary.
• Keep producers informed of overruns in sessions/potential of sessions finishing early.
• Complete worksheets or delegate where necessary.
• Liaise with TK Production/assists handover notes or requirements when finishing shift.
• Projects fully prepared in readiness for the Colorist's session with clients.
• Successful completion of tasks within the set timeframe and within 100% accuracy.
• Color Assistants must have an understanding of the principles of film, video and data production.
• Experience in technical department of post-production i.e. Media Transfer or similar environment.
• Must be diligent and exhibit good attention to detail.

Qualifications
• Projects fully prepared in readiness for the Colorist's session with clients.
• Successful completion of tasks within the set timeframe and within 100% accuracy.
• Color Assistants must have an understanding of the principles of film, video and data production.
• Experience in technical department of post-production i.e. Media Transfer or similar environment.
• Must be diligent and exhibit good attention to detail.
• Should be more broad about experience and qualifications, less repetitive of the responsibilities above.
