Position Overview

The Production Manager supervises the daily operation of the Production Department on the Los Angeles campus and manages the scheduling, budgeting, contracting, and execution of all aspects of physical production—scenery, lights, costumes, props, paint, sound, and projections—for campus shows, capstone projects, and theatre events.

Job Responsibilities

· Develop the annual production calendar and production budget for all Academy productions in Los Angeles for approval.

· Collaborate on season planning with the LA Director of Instruction and LA Company Director.

· Coordinate scheduling and planning for all LA campus productions with the Director of Instruction, Company Director, and First Year Coordinator.

o Create, implement, and monitor individual production budgets, submitting monthly expenditure reports and reporting potential budget overages promptly.

o Schedule and lead all production meetings for Company and Second Year shows and meetings with exam play directors and stage managers.

o Schedule the execution of all aspects of physical production, including set load-ins and strikes; lighting hang, focus, and restore; sound and properties load-ins; and technical rehearsals.

· Schedule and oversee all part-time and work-study workers.

· Supervise, assess, and evaluate the performance of the Production Department and individual production personnel in the unit.

· Manage shop and theatre equipment, including repairs, maintenance, and replacement as needed.

· Coordinate with the Facilities Manager and/or Vice President of Operations for the proper maintenance, upgrades, and cleanliness of the theatre.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Academy’s emergency procedures and safety guidelines and work closely with the Technical Director to ensure all fire and other safety standards and equipment are maintained in accordance with laws, regulations, and codes.

Knowledge & Skills

· Thorough knowledge of all areas of theatrical production, particularly technical design and technology.

· Ability to identify and resolve problems promptly and gather/analyze information skillfully.

· Ability to work well and calmly under pressure on many projects, in group problem-solving situations, and with people of varying experience levels.

· Demonstrate progressive personnel management.

· Strong verbal and written communication, diplomatic and leadership skills.

· Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or professional equivalent required. (Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred).

· 3-5 years production management experience required, preferably in a professional or college theatre setting.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full-time position with a compensation range between$55,000 to $62,000, and subject to review based on experience; excellent benefits include health, dental, life insurance, 401K plan, and generous vacation time.
