Job Description
ABC10, the TEGNA station, in Sacramento, CA is looking for an investigative multi-skilled journalist to join the special projects team. If you are passionate about investigative journalism including digging deep into race, justice, and equity issues, this job is for you. We are looking for a strong storyteller with investigative experience to produce short-term and long-term investigations, and equity and enterprise visual stories. The ideal candidate has a proven reputation as an ethical, trusted journalist who is both creative and analytical. We are looking for a candidate that enjoys digging into research, knows how to tell compelling stories, understands digital and social platforms, and can shoot/edit. ABC10 is setting the bar on how local content is covered and delivered.

Responsibilities:
• Pitch, investigate, develop and produce enterprise stories.
• Report on race-related news and conversations around inequalities.
• Collaborate with the Race and Culture team to cover stories through a smart and nuanced lens of racial and social justice and aim to expose inequity, broaden opportunity, reach new audiences, and sharpen understanding of how our institutions can work better for all residents.
• Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories.
• Develop reliable sources and contacts in general and specialized areas of interest.
• Use open records laws and know how to wrap rich storytelling around data and public records.
• Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner for all platforms.
• Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner.
• Operate news gathering vehicles to and from various locations.
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
• Help with production ideas for data content in on-air and online stories.

Job Requirements:

Requirements:
• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field
• 3-5+ years of experience preferred
• Experience with Open Records laws, LexisNexis, and PACER
• Excellent presentation and reporting skills
• Bilingual (English & Spanish) speaker a plus
• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
• Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
• A portfolio with examples of compelling and visual stories.
• Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
• Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
• Knowledge of ENPS, Premiere, and Axis graphics a plus
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Demonstrated experience writing, reporting, shooting, and editing video
• Experience with ''spot news''- proven ability to react quickly to breaking events
• Strong communication skills (written/oral) for on-air delivery
• Ability to interact productively & positively within different environments
• Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources including digital media
• Valid driver's license and good driving record
• Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%
• Work Environment Set: Outdoors: performed in various outdoor environmental conditions
• Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
