Responsibilities

The News Operations Manager is the operations lead of the Noticiero Telemundo Colorado newsroom, constantly correcting, evaluating and implementing digital news gathering solutions, and maintaining the video and audio quality of the newscast. The role is critical to facilitating a smooth and error free newscast and acts as the primary liaison between Technology and News departments. The News operations manager will also be plugged into current and future news gathering and media operations initiatives with full understanding and ability to translate and support the end user.

Essential Functions:
• Provide strategic, logistical planning, and insight to upcoming events, special programs and/or elements to be included in news coverage.
• Lead, develop, and coordinate electronic and digital news gathering operations: video gathering, editing, remote broadcasts, microwave, ENG trucks and news vehicle and system maintenance.
• Responsible for Productions Control Room and Studio Technology including direct supervision of Automated Production Control (APC) Operators and Photojournalist.
• Administration of centralized Post Production System.
• Responsible of station Vehicle Fleet.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and leadership for editorial and news gathering personnel, including Photojournalist or others as assigned.
• Oversee overall News operations.
• Ensure necessary equipment is in place and in working order to support assigned employees.
• Oversee staffing and supervisory duties, including hiring, performance management, scheduling, and evaluation of Photojournalist and work group members in accordance with KDEN policies.
• Mentor and develop news employees' technology skills, especially in the use of digital and wireless tools.
• Collaborate in the planning of the TV News operating and capital budgets. Plan, supervise, and track operational expenditures.
• Budget, plan, and manage large remote broadcasts including breaking news and special events.
• Available by phone 24x7 for breaking news and disaster recovery scenarios.
• Responsible for maintaining station disaster recovery procedures for News team.
• Be fully proficient with the newsroom computer system and KDEN voice and data systems.
• Contribute to the direction of Telemundo Colorado News operations through regular and clear communications with News and Technology Department Heads, other Department Heads and employees.
• Have a deep understanding of media workflow efficiency tools that impact in house and field operations and train end users on how to use them.
• Attend monthly NBCU all stations news gathering and media operations meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must possess a bachelor's degree.
• Willingness and ability to work long hours, late nights, holidays and weekends as required.
• Must be willing to work at the station in Centennial, CO.
• Must be willing to work in the field in all types of weather conditions, varying work schedules, and to travel as part of assigned duties.
• 2 years' experience with Electronic News Gathering (ENG) technologies and Automatic Production Control (APC) systems.
• 2 years' experience in photojournalism and news editing.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must have a driver's license.

Desired Characteristics:
• Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish.
• Experience managing personnel.
• Have strong news judgment in multi-media platforms.
• High level of experience in technical expertise across emerging multi-media platforms.
• Knowledgeable about FCC rules and laws pertaining to news broadcasting in multi-media platforms, and employment and labor regulations.
• Understanding and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and technical expertise.
• Experience managing budgets, developing strategic plans and presenting in front of large audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment.
• Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels.
• A pioneering spirit with desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future.
