The Mill is looking for a Technical Artist to work on interactive projects with a particular focus towards on real-time using the game engines Unreal & Unity.
You are the bridge between art, design and development working together with multi-disciplinary teams to build rich interactive experiences using real-time 3D game engines.
R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S
• Be a bridge between developers and artists within The Mill and within the Experience team and clearly communicate asset requirements for a project's target platform.
• Set up assets, characters and environments within real-time game engines.
• Create game-engine ready assets when required, or optimize existing assets to run well in real-time
• Craft custom shaders and visual effects using in-engine tools or scripting
• Adjust game engine scenes to ensure the overall look is as good as it can be and matches the ambition of the art director, while maintaining the required performance for the target platform
• Implement animations from animators and captured data, and do basic animation tasks in-engine
• Create fast iteration prototypes and previsualization to aid with decision making and to communicate concepts to clients
• Continually evaluate processes and pipelines and suggest amendments to improve efficiency.
• Prep real-time scenes for use in Virtual Production scenarios
• Integrate 3rd party SDKs into real-time builds such as camera trackers and motion capture libraries
• Keep up to date with the latest in game engine technology and techniques and work with the CG teams to raise the bar of visual fidelity within real-time experiences
Qualifications
• Solid experience working in the Unity and/or Unreal game-engine. Other platforms like WebGL in browser beneficial.
• Comfortable with asset creation and optimization in Digital Content Creation tools such as Maya/Blender/Zbrush
• Experience doing asset optimization for XR and mobile devices
• The creation of PBR and stylized materials using tools such as Substance Painter/Designer, node based shader editors or HLSL/GLSL
• Can script basic interactions either through code or visual scripting
• Comfortable creating custom shaders in Unreal/Unity
• Experience working with source control (GIT+LFS / Perforce) essential.
• Knowledge of rigging procedures and how to work with riggers to communicate requirements for particular use cases.
• Ability to work with animation files from a variety of sources including camera tracking and motion capture data
• Be a keen problem solver. Have the ability to pick up new workflows and feedback.
N I C E T O H A V E
• Experience in working with Houdini and Houdini Engine.
• Knowledge of high level coding language. (Python, MaxScript, Perl, C#, etc.)
• Knowledge of virtual production techniques in Unreal
