1. Creative: Supervisors focus on the ''big picture.'' They are responsible for the overall creative output by the team they oversee on their assigned project
• Responsible for meeting the artistic quality benchmarks of the Animation on the show they are assigned to
• Have a strong understanding of the artistic fundamentals of Animation
• Have clarity on quality expectations by taking point on client kickoffs and calls
• Work daily with their team leads to ensure quality expectations are being achieved
• Review work with an eye towards the big picture so individual shots are executed in line with their project's broader vision
• Approve work to be sent for client review
• Ensure client notes are addressed
• Support their project's leads in setting quality benchmarks through example
• Able to quickly adapt to variety of styles
• Assist Leads in working with the team to gather / create appropriate reference
• Attend Dailies sessions with the team to analyse notes / understand client expectations
• Conduct weekly sessions with the team to analyse notes / understand client expectations
2. On Time Delivery: Supervisors facilitate the delivery of quality artistic output within required timeframes
• Identify and flag issues that may interfere with delivering on time, and provide solutions
• Ensure work is reviewed in a timely manner
• Be cognitive of quotas / deadlines to ensure review points are properly prioritized
• Help ensure technical requirements for the team are satisfied
3. Team Management: Supervisors ensure there is clarity and consistency across all Teams on a project. They work to build and maintain Team morale, and endeavor to foster an enjoyable and productive studio culture
• Ensure work is properly cast among the team
• Conduct daily reviews at a set time in collaboration with Production to ensure artists have clear delivery goals, and have their work reviewed in a timely manner
• Have strong familiarity with the individual team members strengths and weaknesses
• Convey notes / information to the team and individuals as constructively and positively as possible
• Foster a positive, enjoyable culture in the team
• Actively prepare next in lines
• Conduct team trainings
• Mentor individual artists as required
• Resolve disputes within the team (escalate to Department Director and / or Production when necessary)
4. Technical: Supervisors ensure that Team Leads and Artists face minimal technical hurdles, are provided the proper software & tools, and are meeting the technical needs of the pipeline
• Proactively offer solutions to technical issues
• Have in-depth understanding of and proficiency in Maya
• A firm understanding of the software / tools the team uses on a regular basis
• Ensure team is properly equipped to meet delivery requirements
• Good understanding of overall pipeline to ensure work will flow efficiently through production
5. Collaborative: Supervisors ensure that Team Leads and Artists face minimal technical hurdles, are provided the proper software & tools, and are meeting the technical needs of the pipeline
• Collaborate with Team Leads to ensure clear and consistent direction through joint Artist launches, and regular communication
• Collaborate with Production / Line Producers to ensure timely deliveries, proper staffing, daily challenges are met, leaves are properly managed, etc.
• Collaborate with fellow project and discipline Supervisors to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing
• Collaborate with Supervisors in other disciplines to ensure work flows smoothly through the pipeline
• Collaborate with HR in the recruitment process
6. Communication:
• Lead launch sessions, communicating client expectations to team, answering team questions
• Notify Production if work will run beyond schedule or artist requires additional tracking
• Serve as the primary point of contact for creative discussions with clients in the absence of a Senior Supervisor
Qualifications
Experience:
• Proven leadership and management experience in a leading CG/VFX company or associated industry
