Sr. Systems Engineer (Cloud Backup)

The Senior Cloud Backup Engineer will be a core member of a team accountable for the uptime and management of global SPE Enterprise Storage and Backup Environment.

The Senior Cloud Backup Engineer is responsible for the design, planning, implementation, administration, support and optimization of the multiple mixed enterprise class storage subsystems (SAN/NAS) and backup Infrastructures across on-prem and cloud data centers, comprised of hundreds of heterogeneous server environment and large size data of SPE business critical data and systems.

TSenior Cloud Backup Engineer will provide expertise Backup & Recovery solutions such as Veritas NetBackup, AWS Backup, IBM Tape Library operation & EMC Data domain.

The primary responsibility of this role is to interface Infrastructure & application teams, Storage, Database, Network and CloudOps team to design, develop and prototype/POC Storage Backup Solutions as well as day-to-day operations of SPE overall hybrid cloud backup environment

Cloud Backup Engineering Support:
• Design and implement high quality Backup, Recovery and Storage Solutions for SPE public & private cloud platforms
• Cross Account and Cross Region Backup replication
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of the future of the business needs, supports the alignment of IT projects and SPE Backup & Recovery architecture & strategies
• Enhance and improve self-service storage, backup & recovery capabilities through end-to-end automation
• Performs data migration, updates and changes to Enterprise backup software and devices.
• Maintain the data replication process across different data centers including Cloud DC.
• Measure and monitors backup reliability, response time, utilization and other metrics as required.
• Required to provide on-call support during off-duty hours on weekdays, weekends and holidays on a scheduled/rotating basis.
• Manage outages, identify root cause and resolve all server issues within allowed service levels.

Backup Administration Support:
• Maintain the administrations of enterprise backups (tapes and disk based) and data replication in multiple data centers.
• Develop, implement, and improve Daily Operational Procedures and Business Continuity Plans
• Maintain data protection and disaster recovery solutions for a variety of industry standard and in-house custom applications.
• Take corrective action for any data back-up that does not complete successfully
• Provide back-up reporting statistics and the management of back-ups
• Develop strategy for process automation for configuration management and monitoring functions of the back-up infrastructure
• Maintain proper backup schedules for restore/recover data as requested
• Manage Data Lifecycle and Capacity Management
• Manage outages, identify root cause and resolve all server issues within allowed service levels.

IT Operations:
• Participate in the daily production meeting to report the status of production systems.
• Participate in the change control, production acceptance and event management processes.
• Participate in the development of operational procedures and policies.
• Provide daily monitoring and management of data back-ups to ensure successful completion
• Identify, resolve and escalate business issues as appropriate.
• Manage after hours and on-call support.
• Develop and maintain project plans for small to midsized system projects
• Provide oral and written status reports to IT management and customers

Specialty - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent professional work experience.

Knowledge of:
• Hands on deep expertise designing, implementing, and supporting backup, data protection and recovery solutions (i.e. AWS Backup, Veritas NetBackup, EMC Data domain, EC2, RDS, S3, S3 Glacier, S3 Glacier Deep Archive, EBS, EFS, KMS, EKS, VPC and Transit Gateway)
• Deep expertise in designing and implementing HA/DR Solutions in multi-cloud environments, data protection architectures as well as data security, data at rest and data in transit encryption
• Experience of development of proof-of-concept/prototypes enterprise backup solutions
• Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD tool chain (i.e. Jenkins, Git, Ansible and HashiCorp Terraform)
• Knowledge of AWS CloudFormation & Terraform, Terraform Enterprise
• AWS Associate or Professional Certification
• Hands on experience of EMC XtremeIO, NetApp, and IBM Storage platforms
• Minimum 3 year experience with Veritas Netbackup
• Working knowledge with other systems technologies (Windows, UNIX, Network, SAN, etc.) is a major plus.
