Senior Manager, Research EMEA

Overview

Sony Pictures Television's Research department is a global team with staff in the US, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America. The team is responsible for supporting SPT's channels, content sales and international production businesses, with market and audience based quantitative and qualitative research, across all international territories for all television platforms.

This new position plays a key role in providing strategic analysis to Sony's businesses in the EMEA region and highlights the growing importance of data driven insights within the organisation. Based in London the role will be vital in connecting the business to broad industry and behavioural trends and applying that understand to strategic projects within the territories in EMEA. Collaborating with other Research colleagues in the region, other functions within SPT and building an external network will be fundamental to success and ultimately ensuring research is used effectively in decision making that positively impact the business.

The role will be working across projects involving; consumer behaviour, landscape trends, linear and digital direct to consumer brands, transactional subscription and ad-funded models, in-region content productions and large content licensing agreements.

Core Responsibilities
• Lead the creation of research that drives content licensing sales in all post-theatrical windows. Specifically, for large sales events and high priority new and library content across both TV shows and feature films.
• Collaborate with Commercial teams and Research colleagues to understand and utilise over-arching consumer trends driving physical and digital retail sales for SPT. Find opportunities to combine insights across digital retail, subscription, and ad-funded business models.
• Leverage SPT Research's tools, third party data and primary research to aid activities relating to SPT's international production businesses.
• Work alongside Research colleagues in the pursuit of SPT's linear and digital Media Networks objectives across in the region.
• With a broad regional remit, this position will be a key member of the team delivering landscape and consumer behaviour insights.
• A major focus will be implementing research that directly contributes to delivering strategic objectives for the business and contributing to the future strategy setting process.
• Specific strengths in simplifying complex business questions, identifying opportunities for research to impact business decision making, and all round communication skills will be fundamental to success.
• Influencing SPT's toolkit resources of bespoke and syndicated primary research and third party datasets, such as TV Measurement, to best position the team to deliver against the business requirements.

Experience and Professional Qualifications Required
• Typically 6-12+ years' experience in a similar role with experience of the media industry.
• Expertise in producing and delivering concise and well-messaged presentations to all levels of an organisation and in client/external meetings.
• Highly skilled at providing strategic direction using a combination of designed and commissioned research and third-party datasets.
• Specific experienced in applying research in a content licensing and/or home entertainment business setting is preferable.
• Proven ability at managing deadlines, stakeholder expectations and collaborating across functions in a media organisation.
• Experienced in using TV Ratings data with strong interest in the evolution of Measurement methods related to video viewing, including time shifted and multiplatform measurement.
• Passion for the film and television industry, particularly Hollywood movies and US TV series. In-depth knowledge of local consumption behaviours and the key industry players.
• Advanced MS PowerPoint and Excel skills with the demonstrated ability to use complex formulas and pivot tables. Competency using, or interest in, data visualisation tools (specifically Tableau) and working with big data sets to derive business insights.
• Willingness to work extended hours when needed.
• Language skills: English essential, other languages from the EMEA region would be beneficial, but not a requirement.
• This position typically requires: Honors degree or equivalent.
