Manager, Music Clearance & Licensing

The primary purpose of this position is to provide music rights and music clearance information regarding Sony Pictures' motion picture and television catalogs to various distribution departments within Sony Pictures. The role requires in-depth legal research and an in-depth understanding of music agreements, music licenses and other documentation to determine the rights granted to or controlled by Sony Pictures. The analysis conducted and conclusions drawn as part of the role are critical to the distribution needs of the studio and are documented on music reports. In certain situations, the person will provide estimates for necessary upgrades and/or handle the clearance of music rights, preparing the legal paperwork in connection with the license upgrades. Research will also be performed to determine whether a pre-existing work is in the public domain.
• Research the music used in SPE's motion picture and television catalog;
• Review music-related agreements & licenses for music rights granted; Research public domain status, investigate problem situations, track music replacements;
• Prepare music reports containing the clearance information;
• Provide music clearance estimates and negotiate and draft licenses to upgrade rights;
• Support & communicate with supervisor and be the primary contact person within the Music Affairs Group for various distribution areas within the studio.

Qualifications:
• 5 to 8 years experience
• Paralegal certification preferred
• Strong understanding and functional knowledge of excel and word
• Knowledge and love of music is a plus
