Episodic Pipeline Supervisor
Principal Software Engineer
Sony Pictures Imageworks is hiring a Principal Software Engineer that will be 100% dedicated to Sony Pictures Animation based episodic projects
This role will be a unique opportunity between Sony Pictures Imageworks and Sony Pictures Animation. This role will be dedicated to building a pipeline for episodic shows. The pipeline supervisor will also work closely with productions
The Principal Software Engineer will join our Culver City software development team. I n this role you will function as a Pipeline Supervisor dedicated to the needs of episodic projects at Sony Pictures Animation. As a Pipeline Supervisor you will primarily be responsible for the development and implementation of an innovative and efficient pipeline under the guidance of the Executive Director of Technology at Sony Pictures Animation. You will also work closely with directors, VFX supervisors, and other artists crewed on episodic projects. Applicants must have extensive experience in animation production and be able to showcase their ability to design and implement animation workflows and pipelines.
Sony Pictures Animation is an animation studio based in Culver City, California, creating both feature animation and animated series with artists from around the world. This role will be reporting directly to the Executive Director of Technology of Sony Pictures Animation.
Responsibilities
• Take point in building an animation series pipeline, leading the design, implementation, and modification of the standardized process.
• Collaborate with Studio Management, Series show Leadership, Technology and the Global VFX Supervisor to define standards and techniques for pipeline processes that will be administered in production by SPA and our Partner Studio(s).
• Ensure the studio pipeline meets the needs of multiple projects and departments.
• Facilitate the resolution of pipeline and workflow issues that may arise in the production process, while finding creative solutions to minimize project-specific forks and complexities.
• Standardize tools and manage software testing related to pipeline processes.
• Oversee workflows and liaise with production teams in order to stay on track and reach project milestones efficiently with high standards of quality.
• Research industry trends and stay up-to-date on new and emerging animation production technologies.
• Promote a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment.
Qualifications
• Previous experience in a lead pipeline or related role in CG animation TV or feature film.
• Experience leading software, pipeline, and/or technology teams.
• Production and development experience using Python.
• Development experience with Shotgrid or other Production & Asset Management Systems.
• Ability to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Cross platform development including OSX, Linux and Windows.
• Expert understanding of DCCs including Maya, Houdini, Katana, Nuke, as well as Adobe Photoshop
• Experience with ShotGrid
• Experience with rendering packages such as Arnold, Renderman or V-Ray
• An understanding of Omniverse, Unreal, and Houdini, would be a plus.
• Experience with Angular, Firestore, and Google Cloud, would be a plus.
• Experience on episodic shows would be a plus
