Job Description
Director, Business Affairs (Animation)

SPE is looking for an Director, Business Affairs to join Sony Pictures Animation, reporting to the SVP of Business Affairs, Features and Series. The Director will support all aspects of day-to-day animated television production from development through production and will provide assistance, as needed, on animated feature motion picture development and production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Structure, negotiate and draft deal memos for above-the-line development and production deals (writers, show-runners, supervising/consulting producers, directors, casting directors, voice talent, etc.) and below-the-line agreements (story artists, board artists, character designers, production designers, art directors, visual development artists; editors, independent contractors, etc.) primarily for animated television series, with the ability to assist on feature film projects.

Structure, negotiate and draft deal memos for license agreements, production services agreements and vendor agreements. Experience with co-production, co-finance and acquisition agreements a plus, but not required.

Work cross functionally with a broad range of departments (Creative, Production, Marketing, Publicity, Finance, Legal Affairs, Labor, Employment, Music, Tax) to provide information, business advise and consultation services on a regular basis.
Oversee contract manager, BA coordinator and assistants in the creation of comp charts, deal summaries and various research reports.

Grow and effectively manage relationships with key agencies, managers and attorneys in in the entertainment community.

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have a minimum of [5-7] years of relevant experience working in a television business affairs department, legal affairs department or entertainment law firm handling development and production work for episodic television and streaming content. Animation experience strongly preferred. Feature film experience (or knowledge of industry) is a plus.

Substantial experience negotiating and drafting a wide range of development and production agreements and working knowledge of guild agreements for television/streaming (SAG/IATSE).

Exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills, a teamwork-oriented attitude and a keen sense of humor.

Must demonstrate superior judgement and the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels, including senior executives, producers, show-runners, directors, artists, production coordinators, assistants, in-house client groups and outside production personnel.

Must be able to function well under pressure and to prioritize workload. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.

Must have a JD from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing with the California State Bar.
