Software Development Manager - Media Services

Job Description

The Media Platform team provides foundational services, delivering ad supported, streaming video capabilities to our 200+ properties. These include our local news operations, sports operations, The Tennis Channel, and STIRR. These provide 24 X 7 news and entertainment to our nationwide audience. We are excited to be extending our current capabilities and helping shape the future of IPTV and Next Gen TV by creating standalone microservices, enabling a fast, stable, and scalable platform.

This position is in Seattle, WA or US Remote Eligible.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Lead a technology team that designs, develops and maintains video and video related services cloud-native and on-prem
• Support team members by providing mentorship and career guidance
• Influence the architectural design and implementation of features that f ully meet specifications whilst driving quality and embracing and extending existing policies, practices and design patterns
• Communicate and coordinate effectively across impacted teams and stakeholders, working with customer support, engineering and operational teams to ensure systems are intuitive, secure, scalable, reliable, and performant
• Manage stakeholder relationships and help execute on quarterly planning increments and commitments on behalf of the media services team
• Increase team efficiency by removing roadblocks and providing a healthy culture for development
• Continually seek opportunities to increase effectiveness and value by improving processes and practices around application deployment and management.

WHAT TO BRING:
• Experience managing a high performing development team
• Excellent communication skills
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Expert leadership capabilities including leading vendors, staff, and external teams to drive solutions
• 6+ years software experience
• Ability to understand, explain and debug both development and architecture solutions
• Development experience in both a statically typed, and a dynamic language
• Familiar with a modern native-cloud infrastructure and deploying services to them (Google/AWS/Azure)

NICE-TO-HAVES:
• Experience designing and building highly scalable and reliable, event-based web services
• Strong automation skills related to continuous integration and continuous delivery (tool agnostic) and the ability to drive initiatives to automate processes
• Expert skill in any of the following tools and systems: Docker/Kubernetes, GitLab, Amazon Cloud.
• Experience with Cloud Encoding workflows
• Experience with tracking user consumption of video
