Data Science Director

Job Description

Sinclair Broadcast Group is hiring for a Data Scientist Director to join our team based in Hunt Valley, MD, however, remote work will also be considered. We are looking for a Director who is an innovative and practical problem solver. You are a thought leader who gets directly involved across related disciplines including: Data Science, User Experience Research, Data Visualization, Business Analysis, and Software Development.

Responsibilities:
Operations, Collaboration & Partnerships
• Work with data across the complete analytical life cycle to build hypothetical models containing key assumptions, create mock-ups, prototype approaches, and implement production solutions.
• Capable of querying and analyzing data using a holistic perspective
• Analyze and consider patterns in data in order to find opportunities working alongside our Product Development, Process Management, or Engineering teams.
• Specialize in one or more areas of advanced research and continually stay informed on new research relevant to our business.
• Effectively articulate the benefits of a proposed solution to internal and external stakeholders.
• You will be a steward of knowledge. You maintain detailed research notes. You document your solution approaches for others to re-create. The format of documentation could include internal wiki articles, product design specifications, cast studies, industry whitepapers, patent documents, publications, etc.
• Lead projects with low to moderate complexity. Responsible for smaller components of projects of high complexity

Performance Improvement
• Track operations and constantly look for ways to make things work better, faster, and smoother
• Partner with the Head of the Data Practice (Sr. Director of Enterprise Data) to identify opportunities for improvement and work with senior level stakeholders to facilitate change or enhancement

People Management & Development
• Thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment, possess a high level of intellectual curiosity, and demonstrate strong judgment in the face of ambiguity
• Possess a strong ability to manage a small team of Data Scientists, while managing an individual workload
• Provide mentorship to a small and passionate team of data scientists

Qualifications
• You are familiar with a variety of technologies including:
• Object oriented programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, C++, JavaScript, etc.
• Scripting languages such as R, SAS, Spark
• Relational languages such as SQL, RDF, SPARQL
• Data formats including XML, JSON, CSV, Graphs, etc.
• You are familiar with a variety of approaches including:
• Statistical analysis for the design of experiments
• Analysis of variance and correlational designs.
• Machine learning for supervised learning.
• Timeseries forecasting.
• Mathematical optimization for systems of equations.
• Simulation using sampling techniques.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and a project management skills
• Experience mining large data sets using sophisticated analytical techniques to generate insights and inform business decisions
• Identified and tested hypotheses, ensuring statistical significance through experimental design and builds predictive models for business application.
• Experience translating quantitative analyses and findings into accessible visuals for non-technical audiences and provides clear view into interpreting the data
• You have either:
• a minimum of 10 years of industry and management experience in a related role and an advanced degree (MS/PhD) in a related field
• a minimum of 15 years of industry and management experience in a related role and an undergraduate degree in a related field
• Optionally yet preferred candidates have familiarity with marketing, advertising, and/or broadcast industries
