Director, International Research and Evaluation
Sesame Workshop is seeking a Director, International Research and Evaluation. This position will work with Research, Education, Outreach, and Production team outside of the United States to ensure that background, formative, and summative research is of high quality and impact. This position requires intellectual polish, excellent oral and written skills, knowledge of child development, education, research methodologies, and international development.
Responsibilities include:
• Design and coordinate research across countries to ensure common understanding of the needs and goals of research work and ensure a high standard of research reports.
• Communicate research findings internally and externally; represent Sesame Workshop at conferences; write and present research findings
• Provide guidance to in-country teams on formative research; build in-country teams' formative research capacity as necessary; work closely with teams to design formative studies to ensure that they are timely and useful for production. Support teams in data analysis and report writing to ensure effective communication of formative results. Provide ongoing mentorship, support, and training in formative research so that in-country teams continue to build on their skills and studies continue to improve.
• Work with in-country and Sesame Workshop teams to develop Monitoring & Evaluation plans (assist in the development of theories of change and strategic frameworks)
• Manage evaluation work across international projects, coordinate and oversee implementation where possible; communicate with funders as needed to ensure research is realistic and of expected quality
• Communicate/coordinate with education, production, outreach, and sponsorship departments at headquarters (NYC) as well as co-production hubs to disseminate research findings
• Develop research designs for new projects and proposals; provide support for fundraising efforts
Qualifications
• MA in International Education, Child Development, Educational Psychology, or similar field with an emphasis on international research
• 5-7 years of experience in a Research or in a Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) role with an international organization
• Experience conducting, overseeing, or collaborating research in sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, Southern Asia, or Northeast Asia preferred.
• Fluency in a language from the geographies mentioned above
• Excellent organizational skills, written, and verbal communication skills
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods, and ability to leverage both to communicate program impact
• Strong grasp of statistics and experience with statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, R)
• Experience working with and researching children and the adults who care for them
• Experience working with international research vendors and evaluating research proposals
• Team play with excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under tight timelines
• Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural settings
