Responsibilities

What You'll Do
Oversee and manage daily functions of the department including supervisory duties. Support National Director in implementation of all related initiatives and policies; make effective recommendations regarding process improvement in departmental functions and practices. The Manager will also be accountable for the management of the department's administrative support team with a focus on ensuring member service standards are met at all times.

• Supervises and assigns the work of the Business Representatives and support staff in the Los Angeles Background Actors Department in coordination with senior management, to provide contract interpretation, and enforcement on behalf of background performers.
• Partners with the senior management to train new and current Business Representatives, and answers contract questions for all representatives.
• Recommends department changes to the National Director, as well as coordinates and implement changes when needed.
• Creates claim templates for use by Business Representatives.
• Conducts departmental and interdepartmental training sessions on Oracle data entry system, as well as SAG-AFTRA Entertainment Contracts in connection with background performers.
• Monitors time and attendance records of the department staff.
• Assists the National Director in the hiring process by interviewing candidates for Business Representative and support staff, as well as making effective hiring recommendations.
• Provides information and guidance to local SAG-AFTRA offices with respect to background performers employed on Entertainment Contracts.
• Performs other duties as assigned by senior management.

• Ability to effectively communicate with background casting companies, payroll houses, labor relations executives, regarding the provisions applicable to background performers in the TV/TH and New Media Agreements.
• Ability to identify and create procedures that will streamline processes, and create efficiency within the department.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including the ability to defend SAG-AFTRA's position verbally or in writing form to staff, members, or outside parties.
• Ability to develop and conduct training seminars, as well as represent the Background Actors Department within and outside the organization.
• Demonstrative proficiency in the interpretation and administration of the various collective bargaining agreements pertaining to background performers.
• Proficiency in Google G Suites applications.
• Demonstrative ability and initiative to take on unanticipated problems and assume responsibilities beyond regular duties.
• Superlative interpersonal skills: high degree of patience and tact. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally.
• Must be able to work in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
• Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members.
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined at SAG-AFTRA's sole discretion.
• Must be available and willing to work extended hours (and/or overtime for applicable non- exempt positions) per day or per week, including weekends and holidays as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs.
• Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, advanced degree a plus
• Thorough knowledge of TV/TH and New Media contracts and other related agreements a major plus
• Ability to excel in a leadership/management role
• Minimum of 2 years' supervisory/management experience preferred
