Responsibilities

What You'll Do

The Broadcast Business Representative will primarily oversee the implementation and administration of Membership duties and Broadcast related projects and will be responsible for all broadcast member and employer inquiries including membership, dues, health and pension. Responsibilities also include providing support for department projects, meetings and events, negotiations and communication with members working in Broadcast.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinates directly with the Chief Broadcast Officer, the Associate National Director of Broadcast, Membership and other Membership personnel for broadcast membership work, including assisting local staff when needed.
• Primary and first point of contact for new hires at New York stations and the networks; fields general questions about SAG-AFTRA. Schedules one-on-one meetings with new members, including meetings on employer premises, to explain the membership process and assists individuals with membership process, including but not limited to completing applications and addressing membership issues related to leaving union employment.
• Primary point of contact with employer human resources and station management personnel to ensure that stations notify SAG-AFTRA of new hires, employment status changes and terminations. Responsible for ensuring that broadcast members are processed through expedited eligibility for healthcare and that changes are made during open enrollment.
• Responsible for and serves as point person for all matters related to Broadcast membership, including, but not limited to, the administration of dues check-off and all matters regarding dues and initiation fee payments members; including negotiating payment plans with terminated members. In addition, will serve as a conduit to the Membership department for Broadcast members and will assist other Locals with Broadcast membership functions.
• Coordinates with Broadcast Department senior staff and managers to develop programming for Broadcast members and for Broadcast –related projects, such as the mentoring program, seminars, classes and member training. In addition, will coordinate member engagement activities and attendance of members on panels and related programming. Attends such meetings on an as-needed basis.
• Responsible for the administration of Employer Reported Earnings for Broadcast contracts, including Oracle data entry.
• Assists, on an as-needed basis, in preparation for unit meetings and negotiations. Attends all such meetings on an as-needed basis.
• Represents SAG-AFTRA on regular ''check-in'' visits to SAG-AFTRA television and radio stations and/or at media operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Demonstrated proficiency in the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements and union membership policies and procedures.
• Superlative interpersonal skills: high degree of patience and tact. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally
• Able to communicate effectively in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to defend SAG-AFTRA's position orally or in writing to staff, members or outside parties.
• Able to use PC applications.
• Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate multiple tasks under daily deadlines.
• Capable of taking direction from more than one supervisor
• Have strong writing and mathematical skills.
• Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members.
• Hold yourself and others accountable for a high level of performance and integrity.
• Must be able to work in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
• Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such a level as is determined at SAG-AFTRA's sole discretion.
• Must be available and willing to work extended hours (and/or overtime for applicable non-exempt positions) per day or per week, including weekends and holidays, as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs.
• Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
• College Degree
• 2-3 years of experience in the broadcast industry, worker advocacy and/or union related employment.
• SAG-AFTRA Writing Sample
