About The Team:

We create content for Refinery29 Unbothered, the sub-brand dedicated to celebrating and serving Black millennial women. Our team operates across several departments including editorial, social, video, experiential, and more. We create anything from long-form articles and programs to social assets, videos, and experiences. We help shape and guide how Refinery29 supports and serves the Black femme audience, delivering on those promises with fresh content, tools, and discussion every day.

About this role:

We're looking for a Deputy Director, Off platform to oversee and manage the Unbothered social strategy from inception to publishing, with a special focus on new audience development, innovative IP and content creation, and cross-platform distribution. The position requires strong leadership, creative intuition, brand awareness, an in-depth knowledge of the industry, trends, creators, and conversations driving culture, and a passion for growth strategy and keen social storytelling. Along with establishing and maintaining the social strategy, this position continuously pushes the brand forward and will oversee the social team.

What you'll do:
• Oversee the execution of social strategy across Unbothered's off-platform channels including IG, FB, Twitter, and TikTok to tell an integrated story. This includes managing workflow and overall social coordination, creating and reviewing content for vertical specific distribution, and leading the off-platform vision in support of the team's mission and established audience goals.
• Manage and lead programming Unbothered's social calendar, including day to day operations, recurring series + franchises, big cultural moments, and tentpole-specific activations in partnership with editorial team
• Manage team of social editors to create 360 degree compelling content across platforms and serve as the project manager between departments
• Gather insights and work closely with the content strategy, editorial, social referral, video, and audience development teams to apply them regularly across channels to ensure content reaches and serves the intended audience
• Identify and secure editorial social-first partnerships and swaps with talent, influencers, creators, partners, and platforms that align with the brand for further audience development
• Manage requests for designs, photography, and videos for all aspects of social
• Experiment and build ''brand moments'' in partnership with our Unbothered team to push the brand as a cultural thought leader in the marketplace
• Oversee analytics and performance of social stories, and deliver monthly analytics reports and insights as necessary
• Oversee community management and create reports on important findings, including audience feedback, brand and style preferences
• Lead collaboration with PR, video, and live events teams when necessary, to create buzz and thread programming for big ideas across platforms
• Maintain updated social best practices for tone, voice, and visual assets
• Design, edit, and/or produce assets for feed and stories and give notes on original Instagram-first videos, as needed
• Stay up to date on all platform updates for ongoing strategy development
• Serve as the social voice of Refinery29 Unbothered, representing the brand via events, panels, on-camera opportunities, programming, and internal and external meetings.

What you'll have:
• Big ideas!
• Relevant experience at a publication or digital media company where you acted as both a manager and/or mentor, and gained experience running a social calendar in a newsroom
• 5+ years experience in consumer-facing social media management or similar roles
• Clear understanding of audience development strategies and best practices
• Strong copywriting and editing skills, as well as an eye for design, a sharp sense of humor, and an instinct for what is trending in the social realm
• Vested interest in and knowledge of the stories and experiences of Black young women today
• An understanding of Refinery29's brand, concerning both visuals and voice
• Fluency with social analytics tools and platforms; experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus
