Environment Outsource Review Artist
PlayStation Studios Visual Arts (PSSVA) is a passionate team within the PlayStation family providing world-class content, development, and services to PlayStation studios all over the world. Always at the cutting edge of technology, Visual Arts works with studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, Guerrilla Games, Insomniac Games, and more first-party partners. Our team is made up of game and film industry professionals working with some of the best minds and companies around.
PlayStation Studios Visual Arts is looking for a Environment Outsource Review Artist to partner with our ex-dev group and help manage the production of environment related assets.
You will have experience creating high-quality art assets from scratch, including sculpting, baking, and texturing assets to final. You'll work with multiple art departments and have the opportunity to work hands-on and provide feedback to our external teams. The ideal candidate is familiar with Environment creation workflows, using production software and have experience working with OS vendors.
Responsibilities
• Implement delivered assets into the game engine.
• Minor Zbrush mesh cleanup or adjustments on delivered assets as requested by the Art Leads.
• Texturing and material creation of delivered assets for use in game.
• Resolve technical inefficiencies with delivered art assets by giving feedback to the external partner or fixing it internally (i.e., Poor UV layouts, Poor mesh topology, LOD issues).
• Gather all asset data and instructions from the artist to be sent to OS.
• Create and manage all OS environment schedule and tasks through JIRA.
• Manage all the communication of feedback and reviews to OS teams and communicate clearly between the internal team's needs to the external partners in terms of writing up feedback or making detailed briefs.
• Flexible and willing to work on several types of assets including props, vehicles, environment assets, breakables, etc.
• Occasionally creating assets from scratch with provided concept art when time permits, including Zbrush high-res modeling, low-res re-topology, texturing, and material creation.
• Help manage and maintain consistent quality of assets for the shared library.
• Write and/or maintain OS pipeline related documents.
• Take part in training/mentoring new artists across our vendor studios.
Requirements
• Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence or similar software.
• Familiarity with Environment creation process, techniques.
• Strong understanding of Maya, Zbrush, Adobe Painter & Designer along with Photoshop.
• Experience with working with external OS vendors.
• Experience working with optimal UV layouts and able to communicate or give feedback on how to improve UV layouts depending on the delivered asset.
• Experience in baking maps or resolving map baking issues when going from high-res to game res.
• Great aesthetic and artistic eye to constantly improve quality of delivered work by giving feedback or making final adjustments internally.
• Desire to work on many different tasks and work with many people internally or externally.
• A passion for game development and pushing art quality forward in the industry.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to demonstrate the ability to follow through on tasks.
• Be able to communicate to external teams in a professional way that represents our studio in a positive manner and to strengthen relationships with our development partners.
• Shipped AAA games or games with high quality art in the past.
• Understanding of the outsourcing process or experience working with outsourcing in past roles.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

This is a flexible role that can be remote, with varying pay ranges based on geographic location. For example, if you are based out of Seattle, the estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$88,700 - $133,100 USD
