Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE or PlayStation) seeks an experienced Product Counsel to support our product and business teams that build and support our video game console and user experiences, including PS5, PS4, PlayStation VR, related accessories, and PlayStation mobile and web apps. As Product Counsel for PlayStation's product and engineering teams, you will get to work with a variety of teams across our global business, including product management, UX design, engineering, brand marketing, business development and regulatory teams that are focused on the development and iteration of our gaming consoles and service offerings. The breadth of responsibilities for Product Counsel starts from product or feature inception and continues through development, scoping, testing, launch, and ongoing in-market support.

You must have excellent judgment in balancing legal risks with business strategy and a proven ability to act as an effective product counsel. The best candidates will have broad legal knowledge of US and international laws and regulations impacting product design and features for best-in-class video game systems like PlayStation consoles and PlayStation Network and the ability to work closely with their client teams and subject matter experts within the Legal Department to provide nuanced and informed legal advice. You will use your drive and experience to make a big impact on the core product offerings in SIE's global business.

Responsibilities:
• Build strong client relationships and collaborate with multiple stakeholder teams across product management, engineering, marketing and consumer services throughout the feature/product development cycle (from initial stages of development, through launch, to market strategy) on all regulatory, legal and compliance issues impacting PlayStation consoles and feature offerings.
• Understand and stay up-to-date on US and international laws and regulations related to consumer product design and gaming systems: advising clients on issues related to consumer protection, product safety, digital/internet law, online systems and marketplaces, privacy, gaming and the app economy.
• Engage early and often with product teams to review and advise on ongoing feature and product development, including software and hardware functionality, and UX design.
• Explain complex legal issues in basic terms for the non-legal stakeholders across the company, and provide pragmatic day-to-day strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business goals and initiatives.
• Help drive the formulation of global legal advice supporting product development, collaborating closely with legal department members in Europe and Asia.
• Familiar with technology generally, and consumer device and online technologies in particular.
• Ability to draft clear and concise consumer-facing product disclosures, disclaimers, EULAs and other terms of use or service for end users.
• Follow and provide comments on regulatory and legislative proposals that impact PlayStation's gaming consoles, UX and feature offerings, as well as business goals and strategies.
• Design and provide legal training, policies, and guidelines for business clients and the global legal team.
• Build and maintain a solid understanding of the video game industry, PlayStation's portfolio of products and services, and relevant law by attending industry events and legal training.

Qualifications:
• 6+ years relevant experience, with at least 2 years working in-house as product counsel in a technology company
• JD or LLM degree; admitted to a US state bar. California State Bar membership is preferred. At a minimum, the candidate must be qualified for and quickly obtain Registered In-House Counsel status in California and have the willingness to maintain that status during employment.
• Experience counseling product development and business teams, and working closely with product managers, engineers and designers in a fast-paced environment.
• Legal expertise in several of the following areas: consumer protection, product safety, digital/internet law, intellectual property, privacy, data security, competition law, content regulation.
• Enthusiasm and passion for technology, law, and business. Experience in the video game industry, with consumer electronic devices or both a strong plus.
• Proven ability to think strategically, work collaboratively and lead complex and highly impactful cross-functional projects from concept to completion.
• Effective at managing ambiguity in fast paced, multiple project environment and comfortable working on cutting-edge legal and policy matters where there is ambiguity and sometimes a lack of legal precedent.
• Good listener with exceptional communication and organizational skills.
