Job Description
Are you interested in advancing Pixar's in-house proprietary software used to create our films? Our Software R&D department is seeking a highly motivated and skilled software engineer to join our team that develops shading tools and workflows! In this role, you will work very closely with both artists and engineers to build innovative tools, enabling our film production to shade props, sets, and characters and continuously extend their artistic reach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with artists and technical leadership to propose, plan, implement, and deploy features
• Maintain and improve the software individually and collaboratively with a team of peer engineers
• Work directly with artists to support their use of Pixar's proprietary filmmaking software
• Identify, triage, debug, and resolve high-priority issues affecting production artists
• Work comfortably within a sophisticated, multi-layered technology pipeline
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong C++ skills with at least two years of professional experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent formal training
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
• Familiarity with the fundamental mathematics of computer graphics
• Appreciation for the importance of long-term code health, peer review, automated testing, and documentation
• Able to work in a hybrid work model (3 times a week on campus)
PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Experience developing in a UNIX / Linux environment
• Experience with 3D applications and their APIs (e.g., Katana, Houdini)
• Knowledge of shading techniques including procedural material creation and texture painting
• Experience working closely with both technical and non-technical users
• Detail oriented and organized with excellent communication skills
• Ability to build positive and effective working relationships with diverse groups of colleagues and coworkers
