Job Description
Finance Manager, Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial (Hybrid)
Penguin Random House is the leading Publishing firm in the USA, likely globally, and is on a mission to ignite a universal passion for reading by creating books for everyone. With a multitude of Imprints, or brands, that cover everything from fiction to cooking to religion to finance. It's probable that you have one of our fabulous books in your home, it's possible you'll go and have a look after reading this (but stay here for now).
One of our niche brands based in Miami, PRH Grupo Editorial, has seen some incredible growth and is hiring for a Finance Manager to join our industry-leading Spanish language division. You may be wondering how this role relates to our mission, so allow us to give a little insight into life at PRH. We're very much a big family, with a lot of people from different and diverse backgrounds, with a desire to empower and improve. Joining the team at PRH Grupo Editorial, you'll experience first-hand what that feels like, and will gain incredible exposure to the workings of a global business. At the same time, you will benefit from working in a small team and see how one of the fastest growing publishing divisions in the US functions. You will be part of a dynamic team of passionate Spanish speaking professionals that are committed to bringing the best books in Spanish to readers across the US and Puerto Rico.
Reporting into the President of PRH Grupo Editorial in the US, you will also work closely with the finance teams of PRH Grupo Editorial in Mexico and Spain. You will have some great guidance in how we operate and will be given the room we'd want you to have to complete the tasks relevant to your capabilities!
Additionally, we have a great working environment, and offer a hybrid opportunity where you'll be able to work both in the office, located in Miami, as well as from home. To give additional context, see below what some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Supervising the daily operations of the accounting department
• Managing the General Ledger, including timely and accurate monthly closings
• Creating reports, such as P&L, balance sheet, structural costs, fixed cost, depreciation, and performance by book title at six- & twelve-month mark, among others
• Preparing ad hoc reports to analyze data and the impact on business decisions
• Assisting in the preparation of tax documents
• Supervising operations of accounts payable and account receivable
• Leading the preparation of the annual budget
• Overseeing entry of all contracts within our internal system to ensure correct calculation and payment of royalties to our authors
• Serving as the liaison between our global Compliance team and local department heads to make sure full legal compliance requirements are adhered to
• Ensuring all policies and procedures are in compliance with US GAAP and IFRS, as well as other federal, state, and local requirements
We appreciate that this is only a portion of what you'll do, and there will be many things you'll find that come your way as a subject matter expert, and so we've outlined some of what we think will help you succeed here:
• Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken – PRH Grupo Editorial is our leading Spanish language division and the gateway to the Hispanic community
• 5+ years of experience within a similar position, ideally in accounting within a professional environment
• 2+ years of personnel management preferred, this can be within the above 5 years' experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Public Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
• Ability to demonstrate previous experience in creation and preparation of annual budget
• Advanced use of Excel a must, SAP knowledge desirable
• Experience working across multiple teams and multiple levels of colleagues, both internally and externally
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to showcase how the information you're seeing can impact the business, either positively or negatively
• Exceptional attention to detail as you'll provide accurate information both internally and externally
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to understand the inner workings of an industry leading business and who can have visible impact in their work.
