Editorial Assistant, Harmony Books & Rodale Books/Random House
Harmony Books and Rodale Books, leaders in wellness publishing and home to some of the most iconic authors in the world, including Deepak Chopra, Arianna Huffington, Gretchen Rubin, John Gottman, Kristin Cavallari, Dr. Kellyann Petrucci, Rick Hanson, Vishen Lakhiani, Rocco Dispirito, Lewis Howes, and Ram Dass, is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support the SVP, Editor in Chief and VP, Director of Publishing Strategy.

The Editorial Assistant will be responsible for daily editorial activities, including reviewing proposals and providing feedback, scheduling meetings, preparing meeting documents, updating title sheets, project support for titles and special projects, requesting and reviewing trend reports, supporting in the manuscript review/editing process. In addition to providing administrative support, the assistant will liaise with authors, agents, and different departments across Penguin Random House in support of the editorial process and the release of Harmony Books and Rodale Books titles.
All submissions must be in by 9 am, Monday, June 21, 2021, to be considered for the position.
The Role:
• Evaluate manuscripts and proposals and provide feedback to the editorial team
• Research trends and competition, including comp titles (books that will compete with sales/reader interest)
• Write catalog/flap copy (the synopsis/sell of the book) and fact sheets
• Coordinate and create launch, strategy, and sales conference materials
• Run reports in relation to backlist and other sales initiatives
• Collaborate with all in-house departments (publicity, marketing, sales, production, design, etc.)
• Point of contact between authors/agents and the editorial department/Editor-in-Chief
• Provide administrative support, including calendar management, answering phones, and booking meetings.
The Essentials:
• A strong writer who has a broad reading sensibility
• Interest in working on a wide variety of wellness non-fiction titles; illustrated and non-illustrated
• Able to apply organizational methods and strategies to meet deadlines and manage a busy inbox on Outlook.
• Proactive in reaching out for direction, tasks, and guidance
• Timely follow-up skills with the Harmony and Rodale editorial team, authors, agents, and other departments and able to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a fast-paced and details-focused environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with the team when needed
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and an avid interest and ability to learn new applications
• A goal-oriented team player who can cultivate productive working relationship
• Proficiency in creative problem solving, decision making and time management
