Editorial Assistant, Crown Books for Young Readers (RHCB)

Crown Books for Young Readers is seeking an Editorial Assistant. Do you love to read children's books? Do you want to learn how to edit them? As Editorial Assistant, you will assist the co-publisher as well as support other members of the editorial team. You will provide administrative support and assist with daily editorial activities for projects including middle grade, graphic novels and teen novels and select picture books and nonfiction .

You will work closely with book designers, managing editorial, copyediting, and production, as well as the editorial team, to ensure that books are high-quality and on schedule.

At Crown, we publish child friendly books from board books and picture books to YA with a specific interest in publishing new and all kinds of diverse voices.
Our authors include Nic Stone, Jeffrey Browne, Lincoln Peirce, Schuyler Bailar, Kelly Baptist, Kevin Hart, Jazz Jennings, Ellen Oh, Geoff Rodkey, Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich, John Rocco, Mahogany L. Browne, Jeff Zentner. We have partnered with Just Us Books and We Need Diverse Books.

Responsibilities:
• Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining schedules, spreadsheets, and files, mailing packages, and ordering books for the office and authors
• Read and evaluate manuscripts and writes reader reports
• Reads ongoing manuscript drafts alongside editor-in-chief to offer editorial input
• Prepare P&Ls, contract proposals, and check requests
• Attend editorial meetings and offer creative input
• Draft cover/flap and online copy, front matter, and Title Information sheets
• Traffic books through all stages of production, including tagging and formatting of manuscripts
• Interface with Library of Congress and submit copyright notices
• Conduct research for special projects including, but not limited to, photo research, market research,and illustrator research and coordinating expert vetters and authenticity reads
• Assist in creating title specific power point slides for list launch
• Manage and fulfill daily requests submitted by authors and agents as a proactive point person for authors and agents on everyday requests
• Work at the office periodically

Requirements:
• Previous editorial experience preferred
• Demonstrates the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at a time
• Excellent organizational skills, an ability to prioritize with strong attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Eagerness to learn/ability to adapt to new processes and systems
• Ability to work independently, creatively, and meet deadlines
• Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of the cultural landscape and the initiative to stay abreast of trends and conversations in the book industry preferred
• A passion for children's literature and/or children's education, a plus!
