Job Description
TASTE is looking for an experienced editor with an eye for detail, an ear for tone, and a deep curiosity for all things food culture and home cooking. The role, based in the New York City area, is highly collaborative and creative. The editor will work closely with TASTE's editor in chief and with others across the Random House Publishing Group editorial and marketing teams in developing articles (both long and reported, short and spunky) and original newsletters and contributing to the long-running TASTE Podcast. Before applying, please check out TASTE's mission and contributor guidelines.
About TASTE
TASTE is a food and culture publication for home cooks, everyday eaters, and people who just love reading about cooking. We deliver newsletters, podcasts, and recipes that introduce fresh techniques and original riffs on old favorites. We also publish culture stories that dive into the current zeitgeist, with strong stances on everything from yogurt (and why you should cook more with it) to the pineapple upside-down cake (wildly underrated). TASTE has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation with multiple awards and continues to publish stories with deep curiosity and hunger for home cooking and food culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assign, edit, and occasionally write thoughtful and timely TASTE feature stories and newsletters. Work with freelance writers to develop story ideas and work with artists, photographers, and the editor in chief on overall story tone and art direction.
• Idea generation is key. Conceive ideas for original stories-big and small-to be written internally or assigned to outside writers. Over 70% of TASTE stories are generated internally. Always be on the hunt for new TASTE writers, artists, and recipe developers from a wide array of geographies and backgrounds.
• Oversee TASTE's art program. Working closely with the editor in chief, develop and execute story art components, including original photography (reportage and studio) and illustration.
• Newsletter development and deployment. Working with the audience development editor, help proofread and execute 3–4 weekly newsletters.
• Help support the TASTE team in production, build stories in the CMS, research photos, and source recipes from cookbooks.
• Interview guests and generate segment ideas for the TASTE Podcast. Since 2018, the podcast has broadcast interviews with the best and brightest in the food world.
• Collaborate with the Random House Publishing Group editorial and marketing teams in growing the audience of the Well Enough newsletter.
