Job Description

Penguin Random House Sales is seeking a Director or VP within the Mass Merchandise channel. The Director/VP will be responsible for overseeing all of the PRH Adult Core & Client sales & merchandising at Target and Walmart. Additionally, they'll manage a team of National Account Managers who have frontline selling responsibilities with these two retailers.
Other responsibilities include:
• Set strategy for month-by-month merchandising, coop spending and marketing efforts.
• Collaborating with the national accounts team to define hardcover and trade priorities for big box retailers.
• Develop & optimize ongoing communication with Adult publishing divisions so that a continual feedback loop is established to better understand distribution potential along with product potential.
• Spearhead efforts to develop custom content that can perform well at key accounts.
• Determining initial estimates for accounts on all titles and in all formats.
• Working with inventory and Title Managers to monitor and troubleshoot on incoming orders.
• Organizing key meetings with retailers to discuss terms, category initiatives and process improvements.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience within publishing or another media industry; minimum of 10 years to be considered at the VP level
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external colleagues across all levels within an organization
• Strong analytical skills
• Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
• Ability to work well under pressure and creatively problem solve
• Proactive and able to adapt to changing priorities and environments
• Proven ability to successfully plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels
• Knowledgeable of the overall book market including familiarity with industry supply chain, authors, titles, category performance, and publishing trends
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Prior supervisory experience is preferred
