Job Description
Director, Backlist Marketing, Penguin Random House

Penguin Random House is home to best-in-class storytellers. Our publishing lists include more than 80 Nobel Prize laureates and hundreds of the world's most widely read authors, including Barack and Michelle Obama, John Grisham, Margaret Atwood, Ibram Kendi, and George RR Martin, among many others.
Our Marketing Development team is seeking a Director of Backlist Marketing to join our Consumer Marketing department, reporting to the Vice President.

The Director will be responsible for driving the strategy around the promotion of our deep collection of backlist titles, i.e., those published more than 12 months ago. This is an extraordinary opportunity to work across the corporate marketing team and divisional content teams, leveraging the vast wealth of title data PRH is in control of.

The Director will be able to use data inputs from several different sources and craft marketing campaigns to be deployed across all our channels, with the ultimate goal of increasing the sales of our backlist titles by presenting the right book to the right reader at the right time.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with creative marketers and analytics specialists throughout Penguin Random House-and campaign for the consistently selling titles that consumers most want to read now.

Please apply using our ATS system and include your cover letter and resume for consideration. The salary range for this position is $110K-120K and bonus eligible. This role includes responsibilities that require in-office participation, so the ability to commute (when needed) to our 1745 Broadway location is essential.

The Role:
• Set the strategy for company-wide backlist marketing, leaning into what consumers are interested in (trends) and looking for (content)
• Drive the title selection for the recurrent or entirely new trends, considering different data points (search, sales data, etc.)
• Collaborate with the different Consumer Marketing teams to execute on different corporate channels, both paid (Google, Amazon display, social) and owned (email, social)
• Find opportunities with external partners to elevate titles and authors fitting the trending moments, whether recurrent or new
• Determine key performance indicators with the VP and monitor results over time. Based on those, make/suggest changes in the strategy, if needed
• Work closely with backlist stakeholders across the organization, from members of consumer marketing to divisional marketers, to sales
• Be responsible for effective communication with people/audiences inside and outside of Consumer Marketing
• Determine, together with the VP, key performance indicators and monitor results. Based on those, make/suggest changes in the strategy, if needed
• Plan, prepare for, and coordinate meetings and important events (demo days, goals presentations, etc.)

The Essentials:
• A proven track record in marketing directly to consumers to drive conversion/purchase and sustain momentum over time
• Demonstrate, with examples, the ability to develop and execute successful marketing campaigns from strategy through execution
• Strong understanding of advertising metrics and analyzing data sets
• Ability to work independently and think critically about business needs
• Ability to set and meet goals under an established budget
• A goal-oriented team player who can cultivate productive working relationships and pivot across communication styles with stakeholders
• A curious and creative mindset with the ability to be resourceful and self-motivated
• Timely follow through when collaborating and working autonomously and a focus on project management, communication, organization, and attention to detail when multitasking
• Proficiency with Excel, including pivot tables and formulas
• Familiarity with PowerPoint and ability to present results and updates in front of a heterogeneous audience, which ranges from operational teams to senior management level
• Though experience championing backlist titles is a plus, it is not required or needed to succeed in this role-initiative, innovation, project management, communication skills, and strategic thinking are key

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
