Job Description
Random House is currently looking for an Associate Editor to join the proud home of the world's most acclaimed storytellers, thought leaders, and innovators. Clarkson Potter, an imprint of Random House and the leading publisher of illustrated lifestyle books in the categories of Food & Drink, Design, Photography, Gift & Pop Culture, and Entertainment, is excited to hire an Associate Editor for our team.

The Associate Editor will report to and work closely with the editorial director of Gift on a dynamic nonfiction. List within the Clarkson Potter imprint. The title mix of approximately 40-60 titles will include illustrated pop-culture and lifestyle books as well as games, stationery, and gift products.

Role Responsibilities:
• Provides administrative and editorial support to the editorial director' .
• Liaises with authors and their agents and relevant departments throughout Random House,
• Offers team-wide support as needed, including management of group meeting minutes and development of editorial catalog
• Reads and evaluates manuscripts and proposals, researches comparative titles, and acquires projects for the gift list
• Assesses potential value of projects, crafts profit and loss statements, drafts acquisitions memos
• Develops and finalizes manuscripts, and organizes and manages art programs of varying styles and sizes.
• Maintains an effective relationship with authors, production, managing editorial, and design departments from acquisition of a product to publication
• Writes sales and consumer facing copy
• Develops and maintains author and agent contacts

Essential Qualifications:
• A minimum of four years' experience in illustrated nonfiction and/or ancillary product publishing
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat required
• Interest in and experience in developing word-and-art games a plus
