Job Description
We are looking for an Assistant/Associate Editor to join our team at Ballantine Bantam Dell. At Ballantine, our mission is to publish books that entertain, inspire and inform, and to share those books with the broadest possible audience. We publish fiction and non-fiction books in hardcover, trade, and mass market. Our bestselling fiction authors include Lee Child, Diana Gabaldon, Jodi Picoult, Emily Giffin, Andy Weir, Ernest Cline, Debbie Macomber, Danielle Steel, Terry McMillian, Isabel Allende, and Taylor Jenkins Reid, among many others.
Our bestselling non-fiction authors include Carol Dweck, Daniel Coyle, Lauren Graham, Lily Singh, Elizabeth Letts, Daniel Siegel and Lisa Damour.
Responsibilities:
• Provide general administrative support to the publisher
• Oversee calendars and track deadlines
• Plan department meetings and take minutes as needed
• Assist in gathering materials, creating content, managing deadlines, and providing editorial support on the publisher's list of titles (primarily for the BBD list and some crossover on the Random House list; must navigate the differing editorial procedures for each imprint)
• Read and evaluate manuscript submissions in a timely fashion
• Write reader's reports
• Liaise with authors and agents
• Provide editorial feedback on the publisher's active manuscripts
• Draft jacket copy for a wide range of genres
• Prepare TI (Title Information) sheets and transmittals
• Review and proofread book jackets
• Collaborate between departments (production, art, etc.) during all stages of book development
• Create content for reader's guides to accompany books
• Assess manuscripts for items that require permissions and assist authors in negotiating licenses as needed
• Draft Contract Information Sheets
• Prepare P&L requests for prospective projects

• Ability to thoughtfully care for a variety of author needs and sensitivities
• Exercise discretion with confidential projects and materials
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at the same time
